Purpose of the Role
Participate in end-to-end Systems Engineering lifecycle across complex powertrain projects; from eliciting user/product needs, requirements capture/management, through to test & verification planning for motorsport and automotive applications.
Undertake specification, design, integration, upgrades and maintenance of systems test facilities (primarily dynos) at an appropriate cadence and schedule.
Adhering to Systems Engineering best practice in McLaren Applied and working closely with the Hybrid Systems Engineer Team Lead to continuously improve the practice and processes. Proactively leading knowledge dissemination by, for example, being a technology evangelist, mentoring, teaching, etc.
Principal Accountabilities
- Develops and delivers integrated complex systems.
- Participates in specification, design, integration, maintenance, upgrade, safety systems, instrumentation of all in-house current and proposed systems test equipment.
- Operate system test equipment to for system validation, test facility commissioning, fault finding etc.
- Provide customer technical support at track, testing and customer sites.
- Adhere to safe working practices.
- There is likely to be occasional travel and some out of hours working depending on project commitments. Track support roles will require significant travel.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- First class degree or upper 2nd Engineering degree or other highly quantitative field (or equivalent experience).
- Internship experience in high pressured, time critical customer facing Systems Engineering roles.
- Internship experience in the development and use of automotive or motorsport powertrain systems.
- A strong background in requirements capture and management processes.
- System modelling and simulation.
- A strong background in testing & validation of automotive/motorsport systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and excellent technical knowledge.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with analysis tools e.g. Atlas, MotorCAD, MATLAB and Simulink.
- A background in specification and commissioning of systems test equipment e.g. dynos.
- High voltage systems experience.
