We are currently seeking to recruit a Graduate Sustainability Consultant to join our Sustainability team under Environmental Consultancy. The Graduate Sustainability Consultant will join a growing sustainability team within the consultancy business unit. By supporting the Sustainability Consultancy team with Client management and project delivery, the postholder will learn about how to provide commercially aware, technically proficient and professional sustainability and Environment Social Governance (ESG) advice. The postholder will have the opportunity to experience Clients from a range of industries, all requiring support with their own unique sustainability challenges. Sustainability topics that the postholder can expect to engage in include decarbonisation and energy management, as well as connected topics, such as biodiversity, resource efficiency and social sustainability.


The role is not limited to the description outlined and, to an extent, the service offering will be developed in line with evolving customer needs and opportunities. The postholder will be encouraged to contribute towards new ideas and initiatives; and help shape an exciting, ambitious sustainability division driven to create positive change.


This is a full-time role with daily hours of 9am - 5pm, with a one hour unpaid meal break, Monday - Friday (35 hours per week). Due to the responsibilities associated with the role, it will be necessary to dedicate any hours as required to provide the managerial support to the business to ensure all tasks are completed. The post holder will also be required to satisfy overtime requirements and due to the nature of the duties of this post on occasion may be required to stay away from home overnight. This role is homebased, however applicants will preferably be based within a 2 hour commute of Manchester.


Your day will look like this:

  • Support the Sustainability Consultancy team in project management tasks, such as communicating with Clients, arranging site visits, and liaising with internal finance and consultancy support teams
  • Assist in the delivery of climate change, net-zero, sustainability and ESG related projects, including: Carbon footprinting, Net-Zero action plans, Energy audits, Renewable energy feasibility studies, Environmental risk assessments, Nature-based carbon removal solutions and ESG assessments
  • Able to multitask effectively by working across several projects and proposals simultaneously
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ensuring consistently high levels of safety, technical robustness, commercial awareness, organisation and customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional development
  • Support and build relationships with stakeholders in the Adler & Allan business
  • Identify and share opportunities for the Sustainability Team
  • Perform other duties as required by the consultancy division and other areas of the business in order to meet business needs.

How you can help us with your experience:

  • A university degree in a subject related to sustainability/ESG
  • Proven interest and engagement with sustainability/ESG topics
  • Desire to learn about the technical delivery of Net-Zero, including: Development of carbon footprints, Setting carbon reduction targets which are aligned to the latest climate science and Identification and presentation of carbon reduction opportunities.
  • Desire to learn about wider ESG principles and their applications
  • Problem solving abilities. Self-starter, who can design and deliver work under their own initiative
  • Good attention to detail, technical report writing ability and be able to assimilate information quickly
  • A desire to deliver technical excellence
  • Confident communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Solid numeracy skills, confidence in working with and analysing large data sets
  • Confident user of software such as Excel, Power BI, Powerpoint, etc
  • The postholder will be required to travel to any location within the Company’s operational footprint; therefore, possession of a full, clean UK driving licence is essential for this role
  • Proof of the right to work in the UK will be required, and the postholder may be required to undertake a DBS check to satisfy client requirements.
