Diamond Light Source is one of the most advanced scientific facilities in the world. It houses the UK’s synchrotron light source, producing beams of light 10 billion times brighter than the sun, to probe the structure and composition of matter. From viruses and vaccines to alternative energy solutions and nanotechnology, it underpins research and innovation for more than 8000 scientists.
Software enables the world-leading science performed at Diamond. Our software systems facilitate operations at all levels, including the low-level control of synchrotron and beamline hardware, the planning, execution and monitoring of experiments, data archiving and retrieval, data processing and visualisation, the application for beamtime, and capture of remote experiment plans and samples. Our professional software engineers work alongside our scientists to develop innovative and robust solutions to keep Diamond at the forefront of scientific research.
About the Roles
We now have excellent opportunities for Graduate Software Engineers to form our 2024 Graduate intake.
Working within the Diamond Scientific Software, Controls and Computation department, you will work within a research focussed environment alongside world leading scientists and professional engineers, addressing technically challenging problems for the good of humanity.
To help you get started in your career in this exciting and challenging environment, we offer a two-year-long rotational development programme in software technologies, development methodologies, and personal growth. During this time, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and exposure to a wide range of cutting-edge technologies, which could include:
- Big Data Technologies
- High Performance Data Acquisition
- Scientific Data Analysis
- Data Management
- Machine Learning
- Data Visualisation
- Web Services
- Distributed Controls Systems
- Robotics, Remote Control and Automation
- Cloud Computing
On completion of the development programme, you will join one of Diamond’s Scientific Software, Controls and Computation groups.
