The above part-time (0.3 FTE) Innovate UK funded post is available immediately on a fixed term basis until 31st July 2024.


The post

The Faculty wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant to support the work of Dr Martino Luis and Dr Raffaele Vinai in the Engineering Department. This position is part of the PORCEMENT – Recycling Tiles into a concrete alternative.


The successful applicant will be working on developing simulation models for a sustainable closed-loop supply chain model for recycling tiles. The position will involve on (1) collecting geographical data to identify potential locations of collection/ recycling centres as well as to design vehicle routing for collecting unused/ broken tiles to minimise carbon emissions, (2) performing “What if-scenarios” to the models and sensitivity analyses of the proposed simulation models to create robust closed-loop supply chain models.


About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.


Applicants will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be able to use Anylogic modelling simulation software and at least one of java/ Python/C++ or another related language and be confident in applying these skills to handle large datasets. They must be familiar with the latest expectations in producing high quality models, including but not limited to the capacitated facility location problems, vehicle routing problems, and supply-demand models. In addition, they must be confident with mathematical modelling and concepts as well as statistics.
