The Opportunity
You will be based in our Glasgow office, part of our wider Northern planning team working alongside colleagues in our Manchester and Edinburgh offices. You will gain client facing experience from an early stage and benefit from outstanding professional development opportunities in an innovative and exciting multi-disciplinary community.
.As a Graduate Planner, you will develop your planning knowledge and skills by supporting the wider team on a range of projects. You will build close working relationships with a variety of clients including local authorities, property developers and private individuals. .
Assisting with technical input into a variety of projects, your duties could include:
- Assisting with planning appraisals for a range of projects including nationally significant infrastructure projects in the renewable, residential and commercial sectors.
- Input into the preparation of planning applications and supporting documents.
- Provision of development planning support across Stantec.
- Research and preparation of evidence-based studies (e.g. employment and housing needs assessments).
- Assist with the promotion of a range of development proposals.
- Assist with the co-ordination of project teams and project management, helping project managers to complete their tasks in delivering projects to time and budget.
- Assist with conducting research and site appraisals on projects for our client base.
- Assist with policy representations.
- Provide planning appeal assistance.
About you
You have a desire to learn and you have a passion for town planning and shaping the built environment.
You have strong organisational and communication skills, both verbal and written. You will be a critical thinker with an eye for detail and a desire to collaborate and build your career within a leading multidisciplinary environment.
The skills and experience we look for in our graduates:
- You will have achieved an Honours degree in Planning or related discipline (RTPI accredited)
- Any relevant work experience in the development industry across public and/or private sectors would be beneficial but essential.
- Finally, you must be eligible to live and work in the UK at the time you start employment.

Land Aid
Stantec has partnered with property sector charity LandAid as one of its corporate partners to join its mission to end youth homelessness.
In 2019/20, an estimated 120,000 young people asked for help from their local council because they were homeless or at risk of homelessness.
It’s a problem that LandAid are here to help tackle.
As the Property Industry Charity, LandAid unite over 200 organisations from across the sector, working together to bring an end to youth homelessness.
As a Charitable Trust, they distribute funding to frontline charities supporting the young and homeless – and primarily fund capital projects, such as renovating homes and building bedspaces.
We have seen the incredible impact that can happen when the industry unites and so Stantec are proud to be working alongside LandAid this year.
