Purpose of the Role
- As a graduate Hardware Design Engineer, you will work with the full support of an established Hardware Engineering team. You will help deliver complete design solutions – including Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design, prototyping PCB systems and analysis of PCB layouts – to verify & validate PCB designs throughout the product lifecycle.
- You will work on projects in the Motorsport business, supporting the team’s work in providing rigorous validation of PCB designs while working to established PCB engineering processes & standards.
- You will collaborate with our many engineers & technicians across the business, from many disciplines, providing the opportunity to develop in a rich engineering environment.
- The work of the team includes both PCB design and development. Working closely with other engineering disciplines (Mechanical design and Embedded Software) – plus prototyping PCBs and working closely with our Production team.
Principal Accountabilities
- You will contribute to all aspects of the team’s work, including:
- Specification of PCBs to deliver product performance goals.
- Design of prototype PCB systems to verify those performance goals.
- PCB system integration with the product under test.
- Analysis of PCB test performance statistics.
- You will design and develop Motorsport PCB hardware, these hardware-based projects will be used in various Motorsport series. This will involve capturing the design, prototyping and helping with hardware bring up working alongside your Embedded Software colleagues.
- You will collaborate with Systems engineers and Product Hardware and Software engineers, from across McLaren Applied, throughout each product’s development and production life cycles.
- You will begin your engineering career working to best-practice processes, using IPC based standards.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- First class degree or upper 2nd in - Electronic, Electrical, Physics, Computer Science or similar technical field of study
- Thorough understanding of Electronics
- Have experience developing in an ECAD environment, ideally Cadence
- Good understanding of Statistics
- Ability to work both as part of a team and individually
- Enjoy collaborating with others, across disciplines, to produce elegant, far-sighted solutions
- High attention to detail and great analytical skills
