Dedicated to sustainable development, Arup is a collective of advisors and experts working across 140 countries. Founded to be both humane and excellent, we collaborate with our clients and partners using imagination, technology and rigour to shape a better world.
Introduction to Digital Services at Arup
Climate change, urbanisation and rapid advances in technology are changing our world, creating new challenges for our clients. The convergence of the physical and digital worlds is bringing new ways of enhancing productivity and efficiency, increasing resilience, reducing risk and operational cost, extending asset life, and cutting carbon within our built and natural environment.
Our Digital Services teams combine specialist advisory services and expertise in data analytics, user-centred design, software development, modelling, simulation, geospatial analysis and visualisation with our traditional skills in engineering, planning and design. We provide strategic advice on the role of digital technology and build tools and solutions to solve complex challenges in the built and natural environment. We help our clients understand physical assets on completely new levels and gain value from data generated to unravel the complexity and provide actionable insights for businesses, utilities, and cities.

Studio is our strategic design and user experience team within Arup. Our core aim is bringing people to the core of the design process in order to shape a sustainable, humanity-centred built environment through innovative meaningful design solutions. Our approach to problem solving reframes complex challenges of the built environment around human needs looking at the interaction between people, places, and technology. The propositions we come up with are designed for maximum impact to all stakeholders' needs, and are of diverse nature including actionable frameworks, interactive digital outputs, user experience designs, or innovative service propositions.

Being a multidisciplinary team, we combine expertise in service, interaction, and speculative design; user research, strategy, storytelling, architecture and technology to deliver services to our clients. We ground the ideas we deliver in participatory research and make ideas tangible through concept design, prototyping and user testing. Designers collaborate closely with other Arup disciplines and domain experts, each project is a new opportunity to learn how each specialism adds value to a final proposition aiming to solve complex agendas of our built environment.
