LEAP are recruiting MSc and MSci graduates in Engineering Geology, Environmental Sciences Geo-environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering at all its offices to start in September 2023. Interviews will be held in early May. Applications are open now, closing 30th April 2023.
LEAP, part of RSK Group, is a young, dynamic, and vibrant Geotechnical and Environmental Consultancy with a head office in Dorking, Surrey and successful regional offices on the South Coast and in Kent. LEAP has already achieved a lot in a short time growing into one of the principal site investigation and consultancy firms currently operating in the SE. The company has seen year on year growth since our inception in 2008 and are now has a strong portfolio of private sector clients including many of the major house builders as well as local government term contracts.
LEAP is actively involved in a number of ground breaking initiatives designed to benefit the contaminated land industry in the UK and its employees are active committee or working party group members of SoBRA, Geol Soc and AGS.
Main Duties and Tasks
All graduates are allocated to a team and will report directly to a Project or Senior Engineer or directly to the Regional Manager or one of the two directors. Whilst the majority of the work will be directed from the office at which you are located, there is a good deal of inter region work and you may be required to work from one of the other regional offices for a single day or an extended period. While site visits are typically within your region early starts to visit sites across the other LEAP regions and beyond should be expected.
A graduate Engineering Geologist/Geotechnical Engineer will be required to carry out all or some of the following tasks:
- Collect, analyse and interpret geological, geochemical and geotechnical data.
- Prepare Phase 1 desk studies based on web-based research, review of technical reports and other sources of geological and geotechnical information.
- Visit sites – including greenfield/brownfield sites that may or may not be due for development/redevelopment and also active construction sites to compile site visit notes for inclusion in Phase 1 reports.
- Plan, organise and undertake field work/site investigations, with the assistance of a Project or Senior Engineer/Geologist.
- Draft Risk Assessments and Method Statements for field work/site investigations, for approval by the company Health and Safety Officer
- Assist Project or Senior Engineer in trial pitting and other site activities
- Undertake rock slope stability field work – measurements of geological structure orientations
- Supervise shell and auger, rotary, CPT and/or windowless drilling rigs.
- Hand excavation for foundation inspection pits and/or hand augering shallow soil samples
- Log soils and rocks to BS5930
- Onsite ground water and/or gas/vapour sampling using specialist monitoring equipment
- Pack and schedule samples for geotechnical and environmental laboratory analysis
- Use specialist in-house and commercial computer applications to collate and/or analyse data
- Draft Factual reports in accordance with BS5930 and Eurocode 7, using bespoke company templates
- Provide input for Phase 2 interpretive reports in support of the Project Engineer.
