Description:
The role is suitable for any environmental professional with an Ecological or Biological Science background with experience or interest in construction and civil engineering. This role is divided between site and office, depending on workload and the need to be on site.
As our successful candidate you will be competent in the following areas:
Core Competency Requirements
- Recognised 3rd Level Qualification in Ecology/Biodiversity/Biological Science/Wildlife Conversation or other recognised discipline
- Good knowledge of environmental legislation relevant to construction
- High standard of written and spoken English
- Proficient in using a computer (Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Full valid driver’s licence
- Willing to be flexible with working hours to suit ecological duties
- Willing to spend part of the week away on occasion to cover site-based duties
Day to Day Duties
- Assisting with organising and participating in ecological surveys for a range of fauna, including, but not limited to bats, otter, badger, fish, reptiles and birds
- Assisting with organising and observing habitat surveys, interpreting the results, and actioning any resulting outcomes
- Recording time and tasks accurately
- Keeping accurate field notes in accordance with the principles of scientific data collection, with experience in handling, recording and storing data effectively
- Utilising your understanding of wildlife legislation and applying that knowledge to our projects and the work you are doing and being able to communicate compliance requirements clearly to colleagues
- Analyse and interpret data
- Carry out environmental monitoring and sampling (noise, dust, water, etc.)
- Work on habitat management and creation
- Write reports and issue recommendations
- Liaise with, and advise, site managers, engineers, planners and others associated with a survey
- Build relationships with stakeholders, including members of the public
- Undertake community benefits education in schools (if required)
- Carry out awareness training and toolbox talks with the site teams
- Manage compliance requirement of the company Environmental Management System (EMS)
Desirable Attributes/Experience
- Membership of a professional body
- Practical experience or training in ecological or habitat surveying
- ECoW Experience
- Experience of working on large civil engineering projects (Road construction)
- Experience of working to an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
