You will join the Council's Data Services team, to work on our Data and Analytics programme – a key part of the Council’s Digital Strategy.
The team provides a wide range of data and analytics services:
- Platform management and support services for our analytics platform - MS Power BI and GIS platform - ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise
- Data engineering services, building data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Safe Software FME, used to manage the flow of data in the Council’s corporate data platform
- Data custodianship services including data quality management, improvement and distribution of spatial and non-spatial datasets to both internal and external users (via our Open Data platform)
- Data analytics services, building and managing reports, dashboards, web maps and other apps based on the needs of the Council and our partners
- Training, support and advisory services for service and system users
- Awareness raising, producing high-quality publications illustrating the value of data and analytics to the organisation
You will provide general assistance across our service portfolio, and depending on your skills, experience and professional interests, be given opportunities to undertake a more specialist role, for example Power BI development, GIS, data engineering or data custodianship. You will have excellent technical, analysis, communication and time management skills, capable of hitting the ground running and quickly become a productive member of the team. You will have a creative, positive attitude; an awareness of data and analytics technologies and methods; and an informed, professional approach. You must be able to communicate fluently orally and in writing, and should have good organisational and facilitation skills. You will have some data visualisation knowledge and an interest in innovative techniques designed to inform and influence decision making.
Knowledge and experience of some of the following technical areas would be an advantage. However training and opportunities to learn will be provided.
- Analytical problem solving skills
- Communications skills including the ability to translate technical concepts in to non-technical language
- Data management with understanding of approaches to data governance and data quality improvement
- Data modelling and cleansing skills
- Data visualisation and storytelling
- Logical and creating thinking skills
- Statistical methods and data analysis skills
- Spatial data management and analysis using GIS
- Basic database design for both transactional and analytical purposes
- Basic data engineering concepts
- Analytics and GIS technologies, for example Microsoft Power BI, ArcGIS Enterprise, or Tableau
You must have a Degree in a data or analytics related discipline.
