Background to the role
As part of our ongoing development, we are now seeking to complement our growing Ecology team with a small cohort of Graduate Consultants.
Based in Edinburgh, you will be working with our existing team of Ecologists and Environmental Planning experts. You will primarily be working alongside members of the Ecology team but also other members of the wider business, as required. This is a great opportunity to support the growth of an exciting consulting business working alongside a highly experienced team.
Duties and responsibilities
Your role and areas of focus will be flexible as project demands change, but will primarily entail:
- Planning and undertaking ecology survey work as required and appropriate.
- Digitising (GIS) survey results and analysis
- Undertaking desk-studies and ecological reporting as appropriate
- Supporting our wider EIA and environmental planning teams and projects, as a contributor to the EIA team
- As the business requires, assisting in delivery of other related environmental assessments, commensurate with experience and technical understanding.
The programme covers a range of aspects and is structured to help you achieve competency/understanding across many aspects of the business and will offer you the chance to join the graduate network within the business, to support peer to peer learning.
Person Specification
While we recognize every candidate has their own unique set of skills and experience, we feel the idea candidate for this role should be able to demonstrate knowledge of, or have experience in the following skills and attributes:
- An undergraduate degree in Ecology or similar discipline (such as Environmental Management, Sustainability & Ecological Studies, Environmental Science)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A student member of CIEEM (or working toward)
- A UK driving licence (preferred)
- A willingness to work away from home as the role requires
- A willingness to undertake occasional antisocial working hours as the role requires (bat/bird surveys, etc.)
The role is based in Edinburgh. Part of your role will require travel to clients’ sites throughout the UK (predominately Scotland) to undertake field surveys. You may also be asked to attend meetings or training events at our office locations, or travel to clients’ offices as project work requires. This may include overnight stays.

- Salary: £23,500
- Pension: 5% EE contribution / 5% staff contribution
