Location: All UK based locations considered due to flexible working arrangements. Preferably South West (accessible to Exeter, Bristol), South East (accessible to London) or North & Scotland (accessible to Edinburgh)
Visa: Must have ongoing right to work in the UK
Term: Permanent, Full Time (40 hours per week, or by agreement)

City Science is an SME founded in 2015 with a core mission of delivering decarbonisation. We help organisations who are committed to decarbonisation achieve meaningful and quantifiable carbon reductions quickly and efficiently.
We work collaboratively across our consultancy team made up of transport, energy, sustainability, carbon accounting and applied data science specialists to provide integrated solutions to our clients. Our range of clients is extensive and includes forward-thinking local authorities like Oxfordshire County Council, sub-national transport bodies like England’s Economic Heartland and national organisations like Department of Energy Security & Net Zero (see our full list of projects here).
Our consultancy team works closely with our software and product development team who produce innovative and uniquely insightful digital tools, like Cadence and our decarbonisation tool, to successfully deliver our projects.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Due to recent significant growth and strategic project wins, we are currently recruiting for a Graduate Consultant to join our consultancy team, within one of the above diciplines. We are seeking a unique individual who understands the need to do things differently and shares our passion for decarbonisation.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support delivery of a diverse range of projects. Key responsibilities will include report writing, engaging, and presenting to stakeholders, and undertaking data analysis. You will also work with our wider consultancy team, including the opportunity to work across a wide variety of projects spanning transport, sustainability, energy and carbon accounting.
As we continue to grow, there is also an opportunity to support the streamlining of our day-to-day processes to improve our efficiency, such as improving our collaborative business functions (e.g. reporting templates) and providing input to enhance our digital tools like Cadence: https://cadence360.cityscience.com/.
In addition to project delivery, you will support the continued growth of our business, through supporting live proposals and bids. We will also provide the opportunity to attend key industry wide conferences.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the wider project delivery team to produce high quality technical reports for clients
- Supporting stakeholder engagement during projects such as preparation of material for workshops
- Undertaking data analysis (e.g. behavioural analysis, forecasting) with support from project managers and more senior project delivery team colleagues
- Reviewing policy and best practice documents related to the relevant disciplines
- Contributing to and producing graphics and visualisations, such as using GIS and Cadence
- Attending site visits (relevant to a project) e.g. to observe networks, infrastructure and wider conditions
- Identifying potential future interventions and supporting the wider appraisal and prioritisation process of these
- Supporting more senior colleagues with delivery of bids and proposals

You’re proactive, enthusiastic with the ability to multi-task and focus on the detail, without losing sight of the bigger picture. You’ll be able to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and be able to adapt in response to a fluctuating workload. Overall, you’ll be committed to the success of the project and to the growth of the business, and you’ll be a great team player.
Essential Requirements:
- Knowledge and interest to pursue a career in decarbonisation and sustainability, and the relevant disciplines
- Degree qualified or equivalent, ideally in a social science degree like Geography or in Mathematics or Science but all degrees considered (Minimum of 2:1 or equivalent)
- Good people and communication skills both verbally and in written form
- Good report writing skills
- Ability to undertake data analysis
- Self-motivation and ability to undertake specific tasks with supervision
- Commercial awareness and willingness to deliver work to time and budget
- The ability to work well under pressure and to prioritise tasks
Desirable Requirements
- An MSc or post-degree qualification in a transport, science and/or sustainability related field
- Data analysis skills using one or more packages (e.g. Python, GIS)
- Passionate about addressing climate change
- Some industry awareness such as being a graduate member of a relevant industry body
