Construction Managers at BAM are responsible for delivering building projects such as schools, hospitals and office buildings, managing a project from conception through to completion. Day to day they are responsible for managing subcontractors, liaising with clients and ensuring the quality and safe delivery of projects.
On our graduate programme you will initially spend time on site with engineers to gain hands on experience of setting out and ordering materials; this will help build your own levels of confidence in these areas and help to develop your knowledge and expand your network.
This role would suit a recent Construction graduate who has some experience or who has completed a placement and is looking for their next step.
Your mission
As a Graduate Construction Manager, you will be responsible for the practical management and planning of every stage of a construction project. You will be responsible for ensuring building projects are completed safely, within budget and on time. You’ll oversee schedules of work and delegate tasks to your team to ensure that each phase of a build goes to plan.
Key duties include;
- Spending time on site shadowing the construction team to gain a better understanding of the role
- Overseeing the logistical requirements of a project
- Meeting regularly with clients, third parties and other managers to report on progress
- Setting targets, objectives and responsibilities for all supervised staff
- Regularly reviewing timings, budget, labour, risk and project plans to ensure work stays on track
- Setting and agreeing budgets
- Conducting site visits to inspect work, check materials and ensure staff are following health and safety guidelines
- Dealing with contracts and mitigating the impact of any issues
- Ensuring the delivery of high-quality work within contract timescales
