Job description

As a graduate engineer in our civil engineering tunnel design team, you will be working in a world leading engineering discipline, supporting project delivery and client relationships.

You will be provided with support from the team who will mentor and guide you through working towards your professional qualification and additional training.

You’ll be involved in undertaking feasibility studies and outline design through to detail design associated with major civil infrastructure including underground and tunnels.

You will also have opportunities to be involved in analytical and numerical modelling (such as finite element modelling involving Strand7 and Plaxis), preparing design documents and technical reports as well as health and safety risk assessments. In addition, you will have opportunity to manage and respond to commercial and contractual issues on various projects within the team.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Involvement in methods, tools and techniques for the design and assessment of civil assets including tunnel and underground designs
  • Providing input in digital delivery and information management of various projects from conception through to completion
  • Understanding technical engineering codes and practices as well as taking a 'hands on' role in technical matters
  • Interfacing and coordinating with professionals on multidisciplinary projects.

To be eligible for this opportunity, you will have less than 12 months relevant experience and have a degree or are expected to achieve one in civil engineering or a related discipline.

In your application you should be able to demonstrate your interest in the role and working at Mott MacDonald through relevant experience, such as studying relevant modules, or previous work experience.

We are looking for graduates with the following characteristics:
  • Methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail and be able to demonstrate accurate technical drawings and good report writing.
