What does the job entail?
Reporting into the Head of FESL the purpose of an Energy Pricing Analyst , is to play a pivotal role in the energy markets to learn how the renewable/non-renewable energy market operates, how electricity & Gas prices are calculated and learn about the different non-commodity elements that make up the final billable rates for the customer. The role also includes supply forecasting, pricing & settlements, focused on procurement of supply for its domestic energy customers.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide analysis and recommendations around cost components/pricing strategy
- Develop forecasting tools & pricing models to support the domestic credit, smart & prepayment market.
- Develop and run appropriate daily, weekly & monthly reporting as required by your line manager
- Manage development/launch of new tariffs for FESL
- Bringing together insight on customers and market to advise on pricing strategy and value improvement activities
- Support/upskill the wider team to improve analytical capabilities
- Modelling UK gas and electricity flows from the continent to UK and vice versa. Collating UK & Global market fundamentals and analyzing data on a day to day basis to make trading & pricing recommendations and developing dynamic pricing & trading strategies.
- You will assist in the calculation and setting of retail tariffs across all FESL product lines (domestic/credit/smart/pre-pay, energy/future developments), based on projected costs (direct industry and internal operations), calculated risk exposure, and target profit margins.
- Assist in the calculation of rates on FESL’s brand (Outfox the Market) – ensuring company revenue, P&L and full compliance with the industry-wide regulatory price cap
- Ensure & manage the businesses appetite for risk and commercial direction, i.e. type of customers desired is reflected in the final price quoted
- Create a coherent view in the generation of analysis, enabling line manager and subsequently senior leadership to make informed business decisions on current and future product line diversification and innovation of FESL’s business in line with strategic objectives as defined by senior leadership
- Maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of relevant industry regulation concerning tariffs, domestic and otherwise (e.g. charging methodologies, taxation, transparency)
- Research and understand competitor products, developments and retail market rates to ensure FESL’s commercial viability and competitive edge
- Assist with the delivery of prices to appropriate internal brands during price events across FESL’s product lines (domestic/credit/pre-pay, energy/future developments)
- Design, document & map existing & new processes with a relentless focus on driving efficiency through & Excel
- Maintain a proactive approach to supporting the re-pricing process for all elements that make up the final customer price; including distribution, transmission, metering and other industry fixed & variable costs.
- Support for Sales & Front Office Servicing teams for all pricing queries and issues; to be first point of contact for queries from around the business, highlighting any issues to the team and Pricing management.
- Produce statistics (e.g. commodity cost, average selling price) to assist the external accountants.
Our ideal candidate would be highly creative, motivated by challenges which require new ideas, and has the academic background and industry experience is desirable but not essential to put those ideas into practice. Alternatively, a candidate with a very strong programming skills with an interest in data science will find room and opportunity to grow within our business.
Graduates in maths, physics, economics and other similar degrees are welcome to apply, however we will be looking for you to demonstrate that you have the desired skills and qualities we are looking for.

Key Skill Requirements:
A strong degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, Physics/ engineering, or equivalent would be advantageous.
Strong numerical skills a must with the ability to mentally manage a large amount of market information.
Advanced programming skills, with Matlab, Excel, VBA or Python a clear advantage.
Excellent understanding of the UK gas & power wholesale & retail market drivers.
European Gas and Power Supply Infrastructure knowledge essential. Previous experience in the European gas markets with robust understanding of market drivers. Previous exposure to modelling supply and demand forecasts and tightness reports is highly valued.
You must be able to communicate comfortably with work colleagues and stakeholders across the business.
Be able to work under a pressured environment.
