Job summary
Beech Tree Surgery is looking to recruit an experienced Dispenser to work across our 3 sites. The successful candidate will be working with our existing dispensing team to provide a high quality service to patients.
This post is 35 hours per week over 4 days. Holiday and sickness cover is also required.
Salary is competitive depending on experience. We offer 5 weeks annual leave plus statutory bank holidays, the NHS Pension scheme and free onsite parking.
Main duties of the job
This role involves the preparation and dispensing of medications for our dispensing patient population, including temporary residents and private prescriptions at our Carlton site
This role will also include medicine management tasks which include adding to and/or amending patient's SystmOne medication record, as advised by doctors e.g. discharge and hospital letters
Issuing of prescriptions to both dispensing and non dispensing patients which includes taking requests via email, SystmOne and repeat slips
Handling cash and the checking of patient exemption certificates in relation to this and advising patients on the use/compliance of drugs as necessary
Maintaining adequate stock levels of drugs within the dispensary, ordering as required (paying attention to costing at all times) and checking all invoices against stock received. Rotating of stock to ensure short-dated lines are used first, and date checking of stock on a regular basis.
Maintaining up to date records of Controlled Drugs. Carrying out a weekly CD stock balance check
Ensuring prescriptions are endorsed correctly, overleaf completed by patient, counted, recorded and filed ready to be sent to the Business Services Authority for reimbursement at the end of each month
Maintaining an efficient service between our Riccall surgery with relation to the collection of prescription requests and delivery of medication/prescriptions
This role involves working at all 3 Beech Tree sites
About us
We are a 4 Partner GP practice situated in a purpose-built premises in Selby providing care to approximately 16,629 patients. We also have two branch surgeries in the nearby villages of Riccall and Carlton.
We are looking for a qualified, experienced dispenser to join our friendly, hard-working and efficient team here at Beech Tree Surgery. The applicant needs to hold a minimum of NVQ level 2 in Dispensing and have a good standard of education, IT experience and excellent customer service skills. The hours on offer are 35 hours over 4 fixed days. The flexibility to provide cover for sickness and annual leave is essential.
The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast paced working environment and be able to adapt to change easily. You will need to have a strong work ethic and be able to work to tight deadlines. The role involves patient contact both in person and on the phone, so good communication skills are required. The job can be pressurised but in return we offer benefits such as:-

- Providing cover for holidays and sickness to ensure continuation of the dispensing service
- Maintaining good communications with other members of the practice to maximise benefits to patients
- Keeping up to date with drugs changes and advancements, sharing useful information with the dispensary and clinical teams

Qualifications
Essential
- GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
- Minimum NVQ level 2 in Dispensing
- Strong computer and communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
- Evidence of problem-solving and decision making skills
- Good team player
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise
- Willingness to accept additional responsibilities when required to meet the needs of the Practice
- Willingness to learn and acquire new skills
- Full driving licence and own car/transport
- Flexibility to cover holiday and sickness
Desirable
- Minimum 2 years experience
- NVQ/Btec level 3 Experience in an NHS/GP environment
- Insight and understanding of current issues for dispensing in the general practice
- Knowledge of SystmOne computer system

- Demonstrate an understanding of audit
