Job requirements:
- Proficient use of the EMIS GP system
- Must be friendly and approachable with patients
- Must be quick with computers
- Phlebotomy - required
- Must be keen to learn injections, ECG and health checks, GP referral letters, triage patients, with view to checking results
Optional: Arabic speaking. NOT a requirement.
About this job:
A GP Assistant will support the GPs smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP freeing up their time to focus on the patient.
The job will include a 6-9 months training programme, where you will be supported to become a GP Assistant. This is a permanent position for an opportunity to work with a great training practice, keen to take on someone who is excited to learn and be part of a bigger team, working closely with GPs and admin staff to provide excellent patient care.

To work with our vibrant team to perform a range of healthcare assistant duties at the GP Practice. Previous experience as a GP Phlebotomist/Healthcare Assistant is advantageous, as is experience using EMIS. There is space to grow and develop skills on this job as guided by the clinicians in the practice.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
● Working closely with GPs and will receive continued support
● EMIS documentation
● Writing and sending GP Referrals
● Explaining treatment procedures to patients
● Helping GP liaise with outside agencies
● Phlebotomy
● Urine Dipstick
● NHS Health Checks
● Diabetic Reviews
● Asthma Reviews
● Vaccinations
● ECGs
● 24-hour ABPMs
● Training available from our senior HCA
● Infection control
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the phlebotomist/HCA may be requested to:
● Suggest improvements to our practice and your job role, in practice meetings
● Apply practice policies, standards, and guidance and help improve these policies
● Support HCA/phlebotomy staff, providing cover during staff absences
● Partake in audit as directed by the audit lead
As a growing practice, this part-time admin role is relatively new and we encourage any ideas or experience you may have to develop the role and make our team more efficient.
Our patients come from a broad range of backgrounds, but we do have a particular large number of Arabic speaking patients. Speaking Arabic may be beneficial for this role but is certainly not a requirement.
