The Role

Global Opportunities (GO) is one of five teams in the University’s International Office (IO). The GO team develops and manages the frameworks and administration of the University’s global programmes, with the aim to equip our students and staff with the skills to succeed as critical global citizens. The main purpose of the job is to support in the development and implementation of a key initiative of the University’s Global Strategy: Global Education and Community (GE&C).

The Global Education and Community plan recognises not just Newcastle’s positive contribution to the wider world, but also how that wider world, in its complexity, informs our teaching and learning. Global education means understanding that there are different ways of knowing and living in the world. It means openness to difference, being critical and questioning about global norms, and awareness of global inequalities. You will support the development and delivery of this plan, working closely with colleagues across and outside the University.

Key Accountabilities

Work with IO colleagues to develop, plan, promote and deliver activities to support the Global Education and Community (GE&C) strand of the Global Strategy, ensuring progress towards strategic aims and compliance with internal and external procedures and policy.
Administrative support, research and reporting Support the development, planning, promotion and delivery of new types of international opportunities for students, especially those that take place on campus, with local partners and with global partners online. This will include in-person and virtual event planning and coordination. Support the educational administration and delivery of the International Study Year programme. This will include supporting the running of the Board of Studies, inputting marks, supporting School based academic leads and promoting the programme to students. Support the delivery of communication plans and promotional activities to raise the profile of, and ensure excellent engagement in Global Education & Community activity. For example, developing case studies, contributing to web pages and other external and internal communications. Research and support the development of tools to support colleagues across the University to deliver Global and Education activity, for example virtual exchange, and activity that supports the development of intercultural communication, and global and cultural awareness. Support the development, promotion and delivery of digital open badges/digital micro-credentials. Research relevant trends and opportunities relating to the internationalisation of student experience, and prepare reports for IO colleagues and others across the University. Collect data and prepare statistical and qualitative reports, for example, coordinating ‘listening sessions’ with students, and collecting and presenting data on activity relating to Global Education and Community. Providing meeting support, including organising meetings, writing minutes and monitoring actions. Support the supervision and development of a team of student workers to contribute to the development of delivery of Global Education and Community activity

Liaison and customer service Support the preparation of verbal and written presentations of Global Education and Community plans at relevant internal and external forums, to ensure initiatives are co-developed by academics, students and professional services colleagues Coordinate and support relevant incoming and outgoing visits to the University, with partners including universities and external stakeholders, and communicate with key internal stakeholders to deliver an efficient, professional and purposeful programme Develop and maintain effective working relationships with international and domestic students, external partners and other external stakeholders; and with colleagues across IO teams, Academic Units and Professional Services. Providing assistance to, and cover for, other areas of Student and Academic Services and International Office as required.

Other Contribute to the effective and efficient running of the service through a collaborative and collegiate team approach, providing information and assistance to colleagues as appropriate.
Any other duties, consistent with the post’s grade, as requested by senior colleagues and which support the continuous improvement of our service.

The Person (Essential)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Relevant administrative experience. Relevant experience producing accurate and effective written communications, reports, and digital materials.
The ability to manage and prioritise own workload, solve problems, and use own initiative appropriately.
The ability to work effectively within a team and establish, maintain and communicate within relevant internal and external networks of contacts across a wide range of partnerships. Excellent IT skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Office, and the ability to work with data. High level planning and organisational skills and the ability to be flexible according to changing needs. Ability to assimilate a wide range of, sometimes complex, information and provide support and advice to students, staff and stakeholders as appropriate. Excellent presentation skills. Demonstrable experience of working in an education environment in Higher Education. (desirable)
Experience of organising activities involving groups of people. (desirable) Enthusiasm and experience in working in an international environment. (desirable)

Educated to A Level or equivalent
