The global commercial organization at GSK is evolving in line with our portfolio and the breadth and depth of our pipeline. To ensure the successful delivery of our global product strategies, GPS (Global Product Strategy) teams partner closely with R&D and key markets to ensure we drive competitive product profiles, including life cycle innovation, and preparing for excellent launches for our growing late-stage pipeline.

The Commercial Capabilities, Practices & Strategic Planning team works across Global Commercial to help drive competitive and industry leading capabilities and practices aligned to the Integrated Asset Plan (IAP), working cross-functionally with Global Product Strategy (GPS), Global Strategic Insights (GSI), and Global Pricing & Market Access (GPMA), to deliver strategic enablers that underpin our Global product strategies and portfolio ambition.

You will drive and support the ongoing development and implementation of our Global competencies focused on commercial IAP work packages and associated capabilities, and data and analytics/advanced analytics methodologies, standards, and innovation (including digital where appropriate) required to solve complex business challenges, drive overall performance reporting and optimization, launch excellence and readiness. You will accomplish this through the identification of key capability gaps, development of mutually agreed plans to close the gaps, ensuring these plans are operationalized and the gaps are closed. Capability solutions will be developed proactively in line with key business objectives and the performance that the commercial organization is striving for.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and drive consistent, competitive and industry leading commercial capabilities, standards and practices aligned to the Commercial IAP, working cross functionally with GPS, GSI and GPMA, in the development of playbooks, templates, leaders’ guides, workshops, comms, etc. across key areas such as brand/strategic business planning, patient journey, lifecycle management and innovation, KPIs/OKRs, and dashboarding.

  • Design, plan and deliver global capability development programs for commercial teams through implementation of global solutions, leadership of project (project teams) and evolution/iteration of the capability strategy/framework.

  • Design, implement and embed effective knowledge management and continuous process improvement by driving an open learning culture that identifies and communicates key learnings and utilizes benchmarking, community building and ‘train the trainer’ models.

  • Maintain knowledge of GSK IAP and learning resources and delivery mechanisms (e.g., Keep Growing campus, LinkedIn Learning, bite size learning, playlists) and innovative external trends, and translate these into suggested opportunities for the business.

  • Liaise with Commercial Capabilities, Omnichannel Capabilities, Strategy & Ops teams, in Regions, LOCs and across Therapy Areas to share best practices.

  • Partner with Tech, Data & Analytics teams as required

  • Use broad organizational insight to determine which elements are best built, bought, borrowed, or transformed to drive scale efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Work with procurement to align the core objectives for each next-generation commercial capability with the key attributes of potential vendors, to optimize vendor selection and management.

  • Develop and execute a best-practice communications plan to share progress, report early wins and maintain focus on the real benefits of the capability’s transformation effort for increased momentum and to embed change.

  • Demonstrate how commercial capabilities are being built in a manner to enable selected quick wins that are tied to specific business opportunities or issues, to further drive the transformation.

  • Define and maintain the governance model to ensure well-constructed ways of working across stakeholders and clarity around accountabilities and decision- making authority.

  • Perform additional activities related to commercial governance, planning, capabilities, and practices, as defined by the team.


Basic requirements:

  • Bachelors’ degree

  • 2+ years Commercial Pharmaceutical experience ideally spanning Global and affiliate roles.

  • Project management experience to stay on top of detail, deliverables and anticipate and propose solutions to potential roadblocks to keep activities on track.

  • Experience in Data and analytics/advanced analytics experience, for business performance and dashboard optimization to solve key business questions in innovative ways utilizing data.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to influence, challenge thinking and gain credibility with commercial leaders, across the business, across TAs and with customers.

  • Understanding of all phases of asset development, with specific experience leading or delivering brand or commercial strategy

  • Experience in assessment of capabilities and developing capabilities frameworks and training.

  • A change management and learning mindset with experience in business transformation and innovation.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to influence both internally and externally while operating in a complex, matrixed environment.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to interact with all levels of end users and technical resources, as well as the ability to translate data insights for non-technical audiences.

  • Coaching and facilitation abilities, ideally with experience delivering training.

  • Working knowledge of Agile and project management principles and the ability to communicate/transfer this within a business environment and cross functionally.

  • Adult learning and/or training qualification.

  • Fluency in English language, spoken and written.
