The Global Assurance Professional Practice Group (GPPG) is responsible for enhancing the quality of our Assurance practices around the world. The group develops global Assurance policies, procedures and methodologies, maintains effective relationships with standard setters, develops and implements quality-related best practices, monitors audit quality, and establishes consultation protocols. The group’s key initiatives and programs are focused on sustaining EY’s audit quality, internal (AQR) and external (regulatory) audit quality review and analysis, regulator engagement and reporting, global audit methodology content maintenance and updates, IFRS insights, updates and interpretations, quality-related Capital Markets insights and support and Assurance leaning initiatives, maintenance and support.
The opportunity
As part of a group on the cutting edge of financial and other data analysis, this role will lead the effort to leverage various data sources to identify potential fraud and other risk in companies subject to financial statement audits, both for individual accounts and across the global portfolio.
This role will be a senior leader within the Center of Excellence-Risk serving as part of this newly developed group operating within EY’s Global Professional Practice Group (GPPG). The analyst will assist in identifying potential fraud on individual accounts and on a portfolio basis, both as a reaction to specific observable data as well as emerging events to inform leadership on a proactive basis. The financial analysis will include traditional analysis in addition to leveraging externally developed fraud identification tools combined with adverse media and social media scraping, audit team risk assessments and audit data, and other information to feed targeted observations, alerts and warnings. The analyst will be involved in presenting the results to senior firm leadership in our audit, risk and quality functions.
The role requires recognized abilities to drive and support a key global initiative with global business experience and knowledge developed through exposure to diverse and complex business situations.
Your key responsibilities
Conduct detailed financial analysis of publicly traded companies with a focus on fraud and risk identification- Analyze annual reports, credit agreements, and other company filings and communications
- Prepare and analyze financial data in workbooks
- Prepare desktop due diligence-style analysis for companies as well as portfolios of companies
- Communicate key fraud and risk trends and findings to executive leadership
- Lead business discussions exhibiting a high level of understanding of global issues and opportunities.
- Be aware and up to date with economic and key market issues in relation to the initiatives and share this information, as appropriate.
- Problem-solve with leaders around issues, action planning, and recommendation analysis.
Skills and attributes for success
To qualify for the role you must have
Bachelor’s/University degree in a related discipline, or related work experience- At least 3 to 5 years of relevant financial analysist and valuation experience, preferably at a hedge fund with a focus on short investing, private equity or a major investment bank
- Highly skilled at financial statement analysis and modeling (cash flows, EBITDA calculations, financial rations, etc.) with an understanding of common fraud schemes and financial statement impacts
- Experience with analysis across global markets and industries
- Familiarity with searching filed financial statements in various global markets
- High reading comprehension of standard company filings, announcements, circulars, with an understanding on business and risk implications
- Strong English communications skills and ability to summarize complex situations into clear communications both written and oral
- Proficient in use of Bloomberg terminal, MS office suite, particularly MS Excel.
- A strong understanding of firm’s business, organizational structure and operations and leverage it in order to effectively identify opportunities to support the service line’s strategy and key initiatives.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and IFRS
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to assert ideas and influence others to gain support and commitment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to work effectively with all organizational levels.
- Ability to think strategically and consider a broad range of factors when solving/prioritizing issues and making decisions.
- Ability to hold frank conversations with senior executives and having both the courage to maintain a point of view and the flexibility to be open to new or conflicting information
- Strong time management and organizational skills. Ability to coordinate multiple projects and initiatives at one time.
- Ability to demonstrate strong cultural awareness skills to facilitate working in teams and groups.
- Financial acumen to understand and articulate business value for complex programs or other initiatives.
Ideally, you’ll also have
Foreign language skills, fluency in reading Mandarin a plus- Strong ethical foundation and of high integrity
- Understanding and appreciation for the important role EY serves in the markets
- High level of detail orientation
- Prior experience leading teams, but also willing to collaborate and/or follow others
- Highly self-motivated with a strong work ethic
- Willingness to travel globally from time to time in support of the responsibilities of the role.
