The role
OPEN has an exciting opportunity for a GIS Consultant to join our team in Edinburgh. Candidates should be self-motivated, pro-active, well organised and resourceful with a good eye for detail. You will form part of a team that provides GIS help and support across many offices in the UK, covering a wide range of projects from renewable energy to urban developments, providing consultancy to internal and external clients, assessing their needs, and generating innovative solutions. The workload will include GIS data management, mapping, analysis, and visualisation. Your role will be to assist OPEN project managers in the analysis of spatial information and production of maps and plans for inclusion in project reports and planning applications. In return you will receive on the job training and support with an opportunity to gain experience and develop your GIS skills as part of a collaborative GIS and Visualisation team.

About you
To be successful, ideally you'll be able to demonstrate the below:
  • Recognised GIS based qualification and demonstrable experience of working within a multidisciplinary consultancy - environmentally focused would be advantageous.
  • Experience of ESRI software products, particularly ArcGIS 10x and its analytical and productivity extensions.
  • Knowledge of other GIS packages would be beneficial (e.g. QGIS, GlobalMapper etc.).
  • Knowledge of large spatial datasets, data capture techniques, data management, coordinate systems, map projections and use of geoprocessing tools.
  • A self-sufficient and creative approach to problem solving.
  • Good organisation, time management and workload prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • An understanding of how GIS technology can be applied to landscape, planning or wider environmental issues.
  • An interest in 3D modelling and visualisation. Experience in the use of 3D visualisation software such as SketchUp, Autodesk Revit and 3D Studio Max would enhance your application.
  • Knowledge of other packages such as Autodesk AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign is also beneficial.
