Job description
General practitioners (GPs) have knowledge of a broad range of illnesses, and treat patients of all ages.
Typical responsibilities include:
- physical examinations
- diagnosis and treatment of illnesses/ailments
- minor surgery
- health education
- liaising with other healthcare professionals and/or hospitals
- Ordering, performing, and interpretation of diagnostic tests, such as lab work and X-rays, to gather medical information and reach a diagnosis
- Prescribing or administering treatments, such as medications and other therapies
- Gathering and documenting patients' medical histories
- Documenting diagnoses and medical impressions for record-keeping and billing purposes
