What you need to know about the role
We are looking for ancillary workers to join the British Steel family. The roles are varied in nature and you could ultimately be assigned to any area of our Teesside Works depending on operational requirements.
Typical duties to be undertaken include:
Driver Operator: You shall be required to operate a diverse range of small mobile plant and heavy goods vehicles to assist with material / product movement and ensuring your works area maintains good housekeeping practises. With training (which will be provided where required) and the possession of a full driving licence, you will typically be driving mobile plant which will include fork lift trucks, Bobcats, skip trucks, and loading shovel machines. For HGV driving roles, a HGV licence and HGV class 1 or Shunt driving experience are essential.
Slag Bay Overhead crane operator: Become an integral part of the steel making process working as part of a small team that provides an essential service to the steel making team. This will include operating overhead crane to tip Slag into a Slag Pit, control the watering cooling system, inspect slag pit preparation. Any overhead crane licences and lifting / heavy plant experience are desirable.
Industrial Cleaning / General Labouring: You shall be responsible for general cleaning and sweeping within our manufacturing areas ensuring good housekeeping in your works area. This will include the removal of waste products generated from the manufacturing process such as scale, dust, coal, tar and salt predominantly using hand shovels, brushes and jet wash equipment.
Burning: Using thermic lances (training shall be given where required) you shall burn through various steel scrap types to allow the material to be recycled back into the steelmaking process.
What we need from you
We are looking for reliable employees with a good work ethic and a positive commitment to Health & Safety. These roles can be strenuous and therefore a good level of fitness is also required. In addition you need to hold a full driving licence and be over 18 years of age. Whilst the majority of the roles are days based, the ability to work shifts as required would also be an advantage. Experience of operating mobile plant, including the possession of valid licences would also be an advantage.
