Here at P&O we continue to grow our business and brand as the go to travel supergiant and we are looking for a General Manager/Harbour Master to join us.
In this role you will be responsible for the safe, sustainable and effective operations in both Larne Harbour (LHL) and Port of Cairnryan (POCL). You will oversee the profitable growth of both Larne Harbour Limited and Port of Cairnrayn ltd and lead and managed the LHL team.

What does it involve?
Undertake the duties and responsibilities of “Duty Holder” as defined in the Port Marine Safety Code. Ensure compliance with:
- Company policy on HSSE
- Port Marine Safety Code
- ISPS code and any other relevant domestic, European, and international legislation
- Statutory requirements, including LHL’s General Terms & Conditions, General Directions and any other orders that LHL and or POCL may issue from time to time relating to its status as a statutory harbour authority
- All relevant codes, guidelines and industry best practice
The Harbour Master has day-to-day responsibility for the safe operation of navigation and other marine activities in both harbours and their approaches, including supporting the efficient and effective management of navigational safety in the ports of Larne and Cairnryan.
Minimum Experience and Education Requirements:
- UKHMA Harbour Master Certificate of Competency or similar qualification
- Applicants should hold either STCW 95 II/2 (Masters unlimited) Certificate of Competency (or equivalent) or a lesser STCW qualification, combined with relevant a port management qualification and experience.
- A thorough knowledge of all relevant Marine, Harbour and Environmental legislation.
- Extensive knowledge of PMSC, Marine Safety Management Systems and Principles of Risk Assessment.
- A sound knowledge of ro-ro ferry and general cargo operations.
- ISPS experience at managerial level
- Experienced Senior Manager from a maritime, transport or logistics environment.
- Clear understanding of maritime operational and service delivery issues.
- Experienced in delivering organisational change.
- Commercially focused with a good knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
