About the role
The role will be responsible for overseeing and managing the provision of Learning Pool’s global legal services. More importantly, you’ll build relationships across our leadership team and demonstrate the value of a proactive in-house legal partnering.

Location: Flexible within the UK. The vast majority of our people work flexibly in a hybrid model, working from home with regular attendance at one of our Learning Pool Offices (Derry, Nottingham, Oxford, Belfast or Glasgow).
What you will be doing
Roles and responsibilities include:
- Provide timely and commercially focused advice to senior business stakeholders around a variety of legal matters.
- Draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements and ancillary documents for our UK and US client base.
- Manage any employment, commercial, and IP litigation and claims as they arise.
- Manage the in house legal team, sharing best practice and offering development opportunities.
- Review, improve and then maintain the tools required for a successful in-house legal capability (contract database, standard T&Cs, standard agreements, etc).
- Work closely with our Chief Compliance Officer advising on data protection compliance and obligations, in particular GDPR implementation projects, researching data protection issues and necessary notifications.
- Assist and advise with policies and procedures for information security, including work relating to the group’s ISO27001 certification and any further certifications
- Assist the Head of HR on the management of employment matters
- Present to the board, as appropriate, on legal matters.
- Manage external legal counsel relationships and legal budget.
- Administer our employee equity scheme and shareholder/investor arrangements.
- Oversee the corporate structure of the Group, including an overseas subsidiary.
- Advise on special projects including M&A, as required.
Who we are looking for
The successful candidate will have:
- Qualified lawyer with 5+ years post-qualification experience within a City law firm or large regional firm.
- Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, ideally in a SaaS environment for both a US and UK client base.
- Excellent academic and legal credentials.
- Entrepreneurial, commercially oriented and creative.
- Strong sense of urgency and achievement.
- Excellent organisation and time management skills.
- Ability to successfully manage a high volume of work with competing deadlines and multiple stakeholders.
- Comfortable in an informal scaling tech company environment.
- Outstanding written and interpersonal communication skills.
- A strategic business partner who balances risk and opportunity and enables the business to make smart decisions.
- Gives strategic legal advice and challenge combined with pragmatism
Although not essential, it would be advantageous to have experience working with the following:
- Familiarity with company law and experience of corporate transactions.
- Familiarity with data protection, privacy and security issues.
- In house-experience in a scaling SaaS/Tech organisation with international exposure.
