Available Job Today The Scott Polar Research Institute has a vacancy for a part-time (15 hours per week Mon-Fri) General & Conservation Cleaner. We are looking for someone who is flexible, content working both alone and as part of a team and friendly attitude to work. You should have a good level of oral communication and understanding of English enabling you to understand and follow written and verbal instructions including safety instructions regarding the use of cleaning chemicals. You will need a reasonable level of physical fitness as the role can be quite active.

Duties include undertaking day to day conservation cleaning and checks of our museum objects on display in the galleries and around the site and maintaining the general upkeep of the museum and facilities. You will also conduct routine H&S checks for the building, including water temperature checks for the preventions of Legionnaires' disease and ensuring H&S records are kept up to date.

You will also be expected to undertake cleaning duties when providing cover for colleagues in the cleaning team when needed, help prepare our event spaces and support any larger scale conservation projects with the Library and Museum team. We are a welcoming and friendly Department, located on Lensfield Road in Central Cambridge with We hold regular staff events, offer free passes for friends and family to the University Botanical Gardens.

The role is permanent, and we are happy to discuss flexibility on working times and days to suit the right applicant. Full training will be provided but an interest in conservation and museum would be advantageous.

The pro rata salary is approx. £8,500 per annum. Start and finish times can be agreed upon appointment but the start time will need to begin before 10am on Museum weekday openings (Tues -Fri).
