Garment Technologist & Assistant Buyer

An exciting Garment Technologist & Assistant Buyer opportunity to join our team at Herman & Co has arisen at our office in Manchester. Our Buyers are the key decision makers on what looks good and what our customers want. If you are someone who loves keeping up with fashion and can’t keep their eyes off the catwalks than this is the role for you! We look for highly commercial and creative individuals who keep up-to-date knowledge of current and future trends. Our ideal candidate will have experience in garment construction and technology.
As a Garment Technologist & Assistant Buyers you’ll give:
Sample Management
- Processing samples received (fits, development, shoots/meetings)
- Labelling, logging, organising and filing samples including press and bought
- Collating and preparing meeting samples
- Maintaining department range and samples
- Maintaining fit spreadsheet
- Driving the press sample process to ensure that the department offers is fully potentialised
Garment Technology
- Taking ownership of checking samples, providing fit comments, preparing production graded specs, and approving wash care labels and barcodes.
- Measure sealing samples consisting of first fits, second fits, pre-production, shipment and replenishment samples (as required) in line with critical path deadlines
- Provide clear and direct technical instructions to factories/suppliers with verbal and written communication, comprehensive, appropriately timed and accurate for each style and development.
- Lead weekly fit sessions, completing and sending out workbooks
- Consistently communicating with suppliers
- QC check samples and production when required ensuring that the fit comments/specs sent are followed and product quality is at the highest standard
- Liaising with the buying team and designer to support on new development size specs
- Commercially minded ensuring each garment is fit according to the end user
- Analyse and monitor customer returns
- Organising fit models where required
Product Awareness
- On-going familiarity with the competition’s product range
- Basic understanding of “Monday Figure Pack”
- Completing and reporting back on NL store visits and competitor shops
Department Support
- Receiving and Sending post
- Dealing with telephone queries
- Proactively dealing with department queries both internally and externally
- Inputting orders onto the critical path
- Support commitment through weekly team updates
- Managing critical paths with suppliers and buyers
- Support the organization of seasonal shoots
What You'll Need:
- Commercial understanding of the high street market and an interest in this product area
- Any previous work experience completed in a buying department is desirable
- Confident in garment construction and pattern-cutting techniques
- Strong organizational skills
- Assertive, and proactive, with the ability to build rapport and effectively communicate with people at all levels.
- Fashion/Production Degree (or working towards) preferable.

Salary: £22,000.00-£26,000.00 per year
