Torwood Garden Centre in Larbert recently celebrated 80 years in business during 2022.
The business has been in the Stevenson family since it was founded by John Stevenson Snr in 1942 as a market garden. It is now managed by the 3rd and 4th generation of the family: John and Jamie Stevenson.
Many local families have multiple generations who have supported our business over the years, whether for their wedding flowers, children’s toys or garden goods.

Plant Area Assistant (Full-time permanent)
Torwood Garden Centre is looking for a customer focused, plant specialist to join our family business. We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and delivering a personal experience.
As the ideal candidate, you will be professional and friendly, as well as having a good eye for detail. Our customers are our main priority, so therefore you will be someone who is passionate about customer service, polite and outgoing, and someone who would always put our customers first.
* Please note a level of horticultural knowledge is required for this role and candidates will be assessed on this before proceeding. *
Key Skills
- Horticultural experience/knowledge essential.
- Enthusiastic and passionate about plants and all things gardening.

Cook/Kitchen hand (Part-time permanent)
Blossom’s restaurant is looking for two part time cooks/chefs to join the team in our busy coffee shop/restaurant within Torwood garden centre.
Applicants will need to be able to work efficiently and effectively, be able to work well under pressure and with enthusiasm. Applicant should be able to work well within in a team environment and on their own. Experience of cooking in a commercial kitchen is essential and a food hygiene certificate would be advantageous.
14-24 hours per week
Starting wage £10.70 per hour
Catering Assistant (Part-time or Full-time permanent)
Blossom’s restaurant is looking for new catering assistants to join the team in our busy coffee shop/restaurant within Torwood garden centre.
Applicants will need to be able to work efficiently and effectively, be able to work well under pressure and with enthusiasm. Applicant should be able to work well within in a team environment and on their own. Food hygiene certificate would be advantageous.
The role will involve serving customers and preparing food as well as general cleaning of customer and servery areas. Although the role does not involve working evenings and hours would be between 8.30am – 5.30pm, weekend working is essential.
24-40 hours per week
Starting wage £10.50 per hour
Gardening Retail Manager (Full-time permanent)
Salary £25,000 – £27,000 per annum
Looking for an experienced retailer, with proven leadership qualities and a passion for gardening.
Torwood Garden Centre recently celebrated 80 years of independent, family run business in central Scotland. The business is now managed by the 3rd and 4th generation of the family: John and Jamie Stevenson. With expansion plans for the next 5-10 years we are looking to add another manager to support our growing team.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a friendly, family business and we are looking for an individual who is enthusiastic, self-motivated and customer focused. As a leading garden centre with a great reputation for excellence and well renowned for its horticultural skills and expertise, gardening is at the heart of our business. The successful applicant will take on immediate responsibility to oversee the gardening, furniture and landscaping departments. They will also support the general running of the store alongside our IT, catering, indoor retail and plantarea managers.
Key focus areas for the department and its team will be customer service, merchandising standards, stock levels and product knowledge. You must be able to take initiative, develop best practises and motivate your team to maximise opportunities to drive sales and profitability targets for the departments. Responsibilities –
- Managing day-to-day operations; goods-in process, stock levels, warehousing, display and customer service

- Develop you team in all areas of customer service, merchandising standards and product knowledge
- To manage health and safety, absence, sickness and holidays to ensure appropriate cover
- Oversee sourcing of all stock, negotiations and supplier relationships with annual budget of £500,000
- Lead the ranging, space allocation, pricing and promotions
- Be commercially aware to achieve sales and profit targets
