Job description
Assistant Gardener Job Description
About the Job
The successful applicant will assist with mowing/strimming, weeding, pruning, seed sowing/plant propagation and any new landscape work, as required. General maintenance and presentation of domestic outdoor spaces.
Daily tasks will vary, and they will also change along with the seasons, but will include grass cutting and edging, hedge cutting, pruning of trees and shrubs, leaf blowing and collection, weeding of borders and flower beds. We also undertake soft and hard landscaping work, both for our regular customers and one-off projects and this will include working with woodworking tools, fence building, paving, laying turf, creating gravel paths, rotovating and levelling the ground and creating ponds.
Winter work can include pressure washing driveways, digging new borders and clearing snowfall from paths and driveways.
General clearing up and tidying the space will form much of the manual work of the day.
You will work as part of a small team, often visiting up to 3 gardens per day. Gardening is season and weather dependant so flexibility with hours and the resilience to carry on in a range of temperatures is essential as although we carry on in most conditions, heavy rain can sometimes interfere with our plans.
Uniform and suitable workwear and PSE is provided; good standards of personal presentation are also essential for our target market clientele.
What we are looking for
The successful applicant will be comfortable working outdoors in most weather conditions.
Punctual, reliable and the ability to take on the physical nature of the role.
Hard working and keen to work in a team.
Travel to and from a central pick-up point as work is all conducted at the clients premises.
Someone who engages well with people from all backgrounds would be ideal - many of our clients are elderly and/or disabled and an appropriate and professional manner is essential.
An interest in gardening, groundwork or property maintenance is required, but experience is not essential as we expect to give full training on any tasks we ask you to do.
A current driving licence is desirable but not essential at this stage.
