Job description
We are a small & skilled gardening team, targeting nice large properties and estates that are enjoyable to work in, and which provide as much Winter work as possible. I am looking for a professional gardener who has at least a couple of year’s experience as a team-leader or manager with the trade, to join our team on a self-employed basis. £20 to £27ph depending on experience, client rates, and whether own tools & van provided. If on the lower end this will go up by £1pa assuming performance is sufficient. There will be a probationary rate for the first month. Part-time or full-time are both good, starting in March. If you are starting up by yourself and would like to supplement hours that’s all good! We can always step in temporarily to cover your clients if you ever fancy a holiday or are taken ill, whatever works for you.
Work does drop off a bit in the Winter, but I can still offer a decent amount of hours and I’m happy to sacrifice my own for this period. Doing so means I can develop other areas of the business such as my app which we use to record hours, expenses, spray records and to look-up client info. Working with people I hear how at other companies they have been paid at a fixed daily rate, but always seem to end up working extra hours for no benefit. Using our app you get paid for the hours you log, so long as the client demand / quota is there and it’s agreed. Optionally we also have the ability to automate invoicing for you, so the hours you log can produce your invoice to us at the click of a button if you find this useful. The two lads I work with are really sound and know all the basic maintenance staff. We only take on people with at least a couple of years of experience so we hit the ground running and it’s straight-forward from a managerial perspective.
Strength, fitness, basic literacy and competence all essential. Objectivity, critical thinking and the ability to work independently and in a team. Must be comfortable up a ladder and have experience with the usual petrol tools – mower, blower, strimmer, hedge trimmers etc. We try to keep people in teams, because it’s generally nicer to get through the day, but there are occasions independent work is necessary. We can provide tools, PPE & transport if you don’t have any, and we are here to support wherever possible.
Thanks for taking interest and best wishes in your job hunt!
