The goal at XR Games is to be the best developer of VR titles in the world.
We are a multi award-winning game development studio that specialises in immersive VR games. The studio has a history of full-scale development from concept through to submission, working with prestigious partners such as Sony Pictures VR, Meta, and Rovio Entertainment.
Since 2020 our team has grown from 20 full-time members to almost 100 by the close of 2022, due to the success and critical acclaim of our previous projects such as Zombieland: Headshot Fever and The Angry Birds Movie 2 VR: Under Pressure.
Throughout 2023 & 2024 our team will be working on multiple major projects with recognisable IPs and licences as we continue to grow and invest in our future.
We are now looking for a Game Director who can provide the leadership we need for our next big project. You'll work with the leadership team to develop an outstanding game that achieves high quality, is commercially successful and is also reflective of the values we stand for. The right person is someone who is exceptional at making creative and informed decisions, has a strong track record of leading and nurturing a development team on a large project and is someone who can inspire a collaborative team.
Broad Responsibilities
- Create and prioritise the overall vision for our next project, making key decisions on scope, creative direction, and content design.
- Guide the team and support them by providing clarity of the creative vision at all stages and giving them a clear understanding of the complete view of the entire game.
- Partner with the discipline directors, managers, and producers to set goals and establish high level project messaging.
- Lead a multi-functional team in the delivery of the game
- Collaborate with the Head of Production to validate the game scope with the budget and resources available.
- Build a cohesive team-work environment - coach and empower others to make decisions, take risks and reach for the highest standards in their crafts.
- Represent the project and studio in the Public domain.
Essential Knowledge & Skills
- Significant experience leading multiple large AAA projects
- Strong leadership skills where you are not afraid to make informed decisions in the pursuit of maximising product value.
- Skilled at creative collaboration, problem solving and negotiation.
- Detailed understanding of game design and production methodologies.
- A strong critical eye for detail and the ability to resolve issues constructively.
- You are able to communicate with both large groups and individuals, with excellent written and oral skills.
- You are attentive to detail in order to get results.
- You have the desire and ability to champion our studio culture and values and promote the well-being of the team.
Our studio is based in Leeds and for this role to be successful, it will most likely require the person to have a regular presence in the studio every week. Hybrid working is standard, and we will assist financially with relocation for those looking to do so, but fully remote working is not possible for this role.
