Location - Homeworking/National - This role will be home based with access to our UKHSA London and other offices on an ad hoc basis.
Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas. Relocation expenses are not available
Working Pattern – Full Time / Flexible Working / Hybrid Working
Grade & Salary – Grade HEO. National banding -£29,160 - £35,612 per annum. Inner London - £32,978 - £39,691 per annum. Outer London - £31,070- £37,829 per annum.
New entrants to the Civil Service are expected to start on the minimum of the pay band.
The internal roles rules apply to existing Civil Servants, i.e. level transfers move on current salary or the pay range minimum, transfers on promotion move to new pay range minimum or receive 10% increase. Either case is determined by whichever is the highest.

Introduction
The Statistics Production Division is an exciting team within the UKHSA with responsibility for promoting, embedding and ensuring best practice in the production, use and communication of statistics, analysis and data for the whole organisation.
As a Statistical Publications Designer (Content Designer) in the division, you will be responsible for supporting the publication of official statistics reports and maintaining web pages for UKHSA on GOV.UK. You will work with a range of internal and external stakeholders to create, update and manage digital content that is fully compliant with the Code of Practice for Statistics, Government Digital Service (GDS) style guide and other standards.
We are looking for a personable and flexible individual who is experienced in working with written content. Someone who is able to engage and collaborate with others to get content published.
You’ll enjoy working with others to make things happen and are comfortable working to tight and conflicting deadlines. Ideally, you’ll have a broad range of skills, including copywriting, project management, the ability to think both critically and creatively about new ideas, and the tenacity to see things through.
Job Overview
We are looking for a Junior Content Designer to work with statistics product leads and digital content teams to ensure that our statistical portfolio, which includes official statistics and National Statistics, are published to a high standard and in a timely fashion on GOV.UK.
Working with those teams, you will help to improve the quality, value and transparency of draft reports prior to their release, focussing on areas such as clarity and accessibility. You will then work within Whitehall publisher to prepare those reports for publication. You will also help to maintain our other GOV.UK content, such as our official statistics release calendar and other pages, and work with the wider team to help ensure that our releases remain compliant with the Code of Practice for Statistics.

Main Duties of the Job
You will:
- Create content on Whitehall publisher: draft reports, landing pages, and collection pages, and submit content for review, ready for publication
- Support the development of official statistics products in various digital formats ready for publication on UKHSA’s GOV.UK website.
- Work collaboratively with statistics product leads and the wider team to develop statistical outputs that are engaging to the user and ensuring content remains aligned with user need
- Help to maintain the official statistics release calendar for UKHSA outputs on GOV.UK, liaise with product leads to ensure outputs are pre-announced on Whitehall publisher and published to those timescales (in keeping with the Code of Practice for Statistics)
- Support the official statistics publications process end to end, flagging risks, issues or breaches of the Code with the Head of Profession for Statistics or other nominated statistics lead
- Support the release of any ad hoc publications as and when required
- Build relationships with product leads and digital content teams
- Keep up to date on and use the Government Digital Service (GDS) style guide and other standards to design high quality, accessible content
- Be an active member of the content design community, contributing to knowledge of best practices
Person specification
Essential Criteria
- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in content design
- Experience of writing for the web, with experience of planning, creating and publishing website content that is in plain English, accessible and usable, and meets organisational objectives
- Using best practice in writing for the web including following a style guide
- Using a content management system to publish to the web (ideally Whitehall Publisher for gov.uk publishing), and basic image editing Experience supporting the end-to-end publishing process
- Comfortable working to specific timescales and tight deadlines
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of publishing high-profile content at short notice
- Experience of using metrics and user feedback to define and refine content
- Editing complex technical or scientific material into plain English
- Knowledge of health protection issues, such as infectious diseases
- Knowledge of official statistics pre-announcement and publishing requirements

Selection process details
You will be required to complete an application form. This will be assessed and sifted in line with the essential criteria.

Stage 2: Panel Interview

Reserve List:
Candidates who pass the interview criteria but are not offered a post will be kept on a reserve list for 12 months and may be contacted if similar roles become available.
If you are interviewed for the post and do not meet the required threshold for the specified grade, your application may be assessed against a similar, lower grade role and you may be offered the post should one be available.
