The Holy Art is an art gallery with a space in East London. We focus on emerging artists as well as established artist and have an ambitious online and physical program.
We are looking for an experienced gallery assistant who will have a focus on exhibitions as well as the traditional front of house, admin and PA duties. For the right candidate there is lots of scope within the role to grow. We are a dedicated team and we are looking for someone who will work well with us.
Responsibilities
- Front of House management from gallery openings to ordering all supplies and managing the logistics of the gallery spaces
- Upkeep the presentation of the gallery to the highest standards, from printing press releases to lighting candles, temperature management and tidiness of the gallery and storage rooms.
- Schedule, contact and coordinate contractors / contact person for gallery maintenance (internet, alarms, etc.)
- Knows how to talk about art, exhibitions and the gallery program
- Going out on errands, artist materials, transferring items between gallery and office or storage rooms
- PA duties to Director, including but not limited to calendar management, restaurant reservations, management of outside of gallery investments + to-dos (including a rental property, storage unit, etc. // occasional)
- Act as an exhibition coordinator: supporting and eventually leading the organisation for allocated exhibitions
- Work on the website and online exhibition rooms - with a good grasp of visual layouts
- An excellent communicator via email, in person, writing exhibition texts and general research
- Formatting, collating and managing PDFs, artists CVs, portfolios and materials
- Managing the gallery calendar
- Supporting all members of the team with contact database uploads and maintenance
- Adding press to the website and platforms and updating files with recent articles
- Manage various platforms ie. Artsy, Dropbox, Microsoft packages, the website, database etc.
Knowledge, skills, experience
- An organised individual who thrives under pressure and working within a team with an ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and projects
- An ability to maintain composure under pressure, has excellent judgment and ability to prioritise
- Strong demonstratable interest in contemporary art and the commercial side of a gallery
- At least 1 full year of experience working in a commercial gallery, auction house or similar environment
- Eye for detail who enjoys providing extensive admin support
- Developed computer skills with a willingness to learn new computer programs.
Working Hours:
Monday to Friday - 09:00 to 18:00 with 1 x hour lunch break
Candidate will occasionally need to work additional hours or during the weekend.
