Canoe Trail is our multi award-winning family business run by professional Adventurers Ash and Rich (a husband and wife team). We are recruiting for seasonal, full-time Assistant Activities Manager for the 2023 season. We want enthusiastic Lead instructor to be part of our diverse business helping with planning and logistics aiding the Activity Manager Role , from running paddling and land based session, tourism activities, British Canoeing Delivery Partner (with Senior Instructors holding Provider status), running paddling courses and coached sessions, Duke of Edinburgh, national shows, expeditions and our woodland campsite.

Canoe Trail is based in Bedford operates from our HQ Centre set on the banks of the river Great Ouse, with a high ropes course, indoor climbing wall, archery range, axe throwing range and airguns range. We also run sessions, activity days and camps from our woodland campsite just a few miles downstream, allowing customers the unique experience of paddling into the site. We are a fun and vibrant team who work hard to share our love of adventure and the outdoors (this is our lifestyle not a label). Responsibilities:
● Leading and instructing multi activities
● Managing your team to ensure all aspects of the business are being met
● Briefing participants about safety and logistics
● Running the hire side of the business
● Accompanying the team to shows where necessary
● Providing high levels of customer service
● Follow our core approach Safe Fun Learn
● Briefing participants about safety and logistics
● Complying with the company culture of health and safety
● Using the 6 P’s approach to organisation
● Recording accidents/incidents and writing incident reports
● Cleaning, maintaining, and preparing equipment
● Maintenance of the centre and woodland
● Driving and Towing trailers
Main Role:
Working as part of a team to deliver high quality sessions to a wide range of customers (from children’s sessions to coaching adults as part of a course). Ensuring the outcome of each group is met and the customers leave happy at the end of the day. This is a varied role and will be split between all that the company offers.
Personal Specification Essential:
● Hold a British Canoeing Core Coach or above qualification
● Hold a NGB qualification for climbing
● Hold a Full UK Driving Licence for a minimum of 5 years
● Have experience in delivering high quality sessions to a wide range of people
● Campcraft skills
● Have an enthusiastic, ‘can do’ attitude
● Demonstrate an ability to self-mange and prioritise
● Ability to work a flexible shift pattern with some evening and weekend work
● Interest in adventures and expeditions
● Experience in managing a team
● GSH
Personal Specification Desirable:
● Experience in bushcraft/ natural world
● Towing experience
● Campfire cooking skills (No Michelin stars needed!)
● Knowledge of navigation
● Experience/ Qualification of DofE at any level
