Being a Senior WordPress Developer at Box UK

As a member of our development team, you will play a key role in helping to develop enterprise-level WordPress solutions, supporting large user-base installations with complex business rules – projects ranging from international e-commerce sites and editorial archives, to large-scale brochure sites and community hubs.

As a Senior WordPress Developer, you will support the team in their continued learning and development, through sharing experiences, presenting on topics, and mentoring specific skills. Alongside this, you will also be responsible for leading architectural decisions and choosing approaches to ensure the team delivers high quality software.

You will have the opportunity to grow your skill set within the WordPress ecosystem, as well as the potential to broaden your outlook to other server-side frameworks, and front-end technologies.

In this role you will…

  • Utilise your knowledge of WordPress to develop new functionality,
    configure installations, and choose plugins, in order to create exceptional
    software solutions that exceed our client’s expectations
  • Troubleshoot, investigate, and fix bugs
  • Participate in, and undertake, code reviews, and lead pair programming
    activities with others in your team
  • Lead and actively participate in project, sprint and client meetings
  • Provide specialist guidance and support, acting as a mentor and coach
    within the development and project teams
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within Box UK to contribute
    towards the overall success of the business performance
  • Be an ambassador for Box UK, embodying our brand and promoting our
    culture, values and behaviours

On the technical side you will have…

  • A minimum of 5 years WordPress or PHP experience
  • Worked on projects that required custom plugin development
  • Gutenberg component development
  • Worked with APIs, databases, and other external data services
  • A strong understanding of working with modern PHP
  • An understanding of web performance and why it’s important
  • Experience of creating unit-tested solutions
  • A love of clean coding practices (SOLID etc)

You will also have some of these…

  • Experience of developing E-commerce solutions, ideally using
    WooCommerce
  • Experience of supporting technology, such as Elasticsearch or Varnish.
  • Developed WordPress solutions used at an enterprise scale
  • Experience of trunk-based development and CI/CD practices
