The A Side: A Day in The Life
UMUK value e-Commerce as a key foundational channel to connect artists and fans. This created role that will manage the design and build of our artists stores, helping us to launch unrivalled eCommerce retail experiences, whilst delivering a first class customer experience to our fans.
We are seeking an experienced front end designer / developer with strong Shopify experience to support the eCommerce team with all front-end design and store build operations. You will design and build stores for label and eComm managers, whilst working to test and support theme and app releases on Shopify as well as projects with the wider global technology team. Using your eComm UX & design skills you will build out mobile first stores for our artists and retail brands that help to deliver engaging front end experiences that aid eCommerce conversions.
The B Side: Skills & Experience
Web Design
  • Ability to manage e-Commerce store build process from initial brief through to design and build.
  • Design and build e-Commerce stores to a high standard, pushing UI / UX best practice.
  • Manage work flows and briefs and oversee the store build / briefing process.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Figma, Sketch or similar, with excellent conceptual design skills.
  • Ensure timely supply of store builds to meet scheduled store launch dates.
  • Ability to multi-task, problem solve, and execute tasks with accuracy in a high-pressure, fast-paced agile environment and prioritise a busy workload.
  • Maintain a schedule of work to ensure that work is completed within the requested time frame.
  • Ad hoc creation of web banners and creative assets (Ads, store imagery) for retail brands and artist stores.
  • Bring a professional approach to the role. This is a client facing team and we expect this role to engage with store managers & label leads in a positive manner and to support requests and problem solve proactively.
Web Development
  • Commercial experience and excellent knowledge in coding modern HTML, CSS & Javascript.
  • Good understanding of modern design patterns.
  • Knowledge of Shopify and its templating language (Liquid) to design and build ecomm themes, build new feature sets and interfaces.
  • Strong proficiency in modern design patterns.
  • Implementing mobile first, responsive web design principles.
  • Work with the team to research requirements and if required write specifications for technical implementation and support UAT.
  • General code and feature maintenance - Issue tracking and improvements to existing store features.
  • Platform developments - Working closely with the team to collectively find solutions for business requirements.
  • Experience creating and editing Shopify themes.
  • Comfortable with version control, issue trackers and project management tools
  • Project mgmt tool experience and working in an agile way with Kanban method / framework.
Personal Specification
Essential
  • Liaise and build good working relationships with all internal and external contacts including Store Managers, Developers, Labels and as appropriate artist management.
  • Provide support and training to store managers / stakeholders on store building procedures and advice on best practice and develop relevant documentation resources as required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to understand, explain and communicate technical concepts to various business units.
  • Customer-first mentality with ability to empathise and create customer loyalty
  • Support the store operations team in production launches and daily troubleshooting.
  • Solid grounding on front-end design & development patterns and best practices.
  • Ability to look at projects/stores from a wide perspective, and at the same time, pay attention to the smaller details that can easily get overlooked, which affect the UX, ensuring consistency across a store.
  • Collaborate with store manager/senior development team and develop performance optimizations, improve UX and accessibility.
  • Experience creating and editing themes and/or sites for platforms like Shopify with a good knowledge of webstore CMS and actions.
  • Experience of using a CSS style editor to theme template or handling code updates with store and template code.
  • Understanding of DNS, being able to support senior devs with managing store domain operations (DNS updates, SSL orders and installation).
Desirable
  • Demonstrable eCommerce platform front end experience.
  • A good understanding of SEO and page optimisation.
  • Working knowledge of ecommerce technology landscape and associated stacks (shopping cart, API integrations, OMS, IMS, WMS, credit card processing, digital distribution etc.)
