Freelance Science Presenter
We are expanding our team and looking for a new freelance science presenter to work in the following area: SURREY & BERKSHIRE (Woking, Guildford, Reading, Slough)
PART TIME, FLEXIBLE TOP UP/EXTRA INCOME, ideal for teachers and science presenters. Choose the days you want to work, you can accept or decline workshop days to suit your schedule. Term time only, to fit around family life and other work commitments.
Job Summary
Hands on Science are one of the UK’s leading independent providers of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) education into primary schools. We are looking for new science communicators to join us from all over the UK to cover their local areas.
Hands on Science In-school Workshops
In primary schools these are typically running a day of five 1 hour workshops with a class 30 of children at a time typically based within the classroom setting.
In secondary schools a science day is ran with STEM challenges.
Workshop days run Monday to Friday, term time only.

Freelance Workshop Leader
As a skilled science communicator – our workshop leaders must have a love of science that they want to share.
Our Workshop leaders have excellent class management skills and enjoy working with children.
We look for a sense of fun and inclusivity to make sure every child gets stuck in with practical investigations and experiments. This way we help as many children as possible develop a real enthusiasm for science.
Dedication, presentation, diplomacy and reliability are crucial. When our workshop leaders are in school, they represent Hands on Science to everyone they meet. Our workshop leaders need to be proactive, quick thinkers to alleviate any challenges as they may occur whilst remaining calm and professional.
Flexible working around family or other commitments. There are no set days for working, workshop days are booked as they come into the business, so you can accept or decline a booking to suit your own commitments. All that we stipulate is that we book full days only so you will have to be available for a whole school day and include set up and clear down and travel time.
All workshop resources are provided.
You will need access to a car.
All workshop leaders must be able to provide us with a current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Check. We can help with this.
Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
- A skilled science communicator or teacher
- Excellent engaging and fun approach to presenting to children
- Proactive thinker
- Punctuality
- Good organisational skills
- Adaptability - can act quickly to adapt workshop formats to suit audiences
- Flexible and reliable
- Has own car or access to a car
Desirable:
- Has previously worked with young children age 4-11
- Has specific science teaching experience
- DBS (CRB) checked
