Job description

What we will offer:
If you require this document in an accessible format (e.g. large print), please contact [email protected] or call 020 7809 2711

We will offer you a place where you can be yourself and where there are no limits on what you can achieve. With us, you can take ownership of your career and have honest conversations throughout. You would join an ambitious firm with a clear strategy for profitable growth where you can get responsibility and involvement in growing the business. Here you can expect a competitive and fair reward as well as recognition based on all round performance. This forms part of our internal promise to you, The Deal, between the firm and its employees.
Team Structure:
Our fraud team is one of the top teams in the world, ranked in Tier 1 for civil fraud in both Chambers & Partners and Legal 500, as well as being ranked in Tier 2 in Chambers & Partners global 'Asset Tracing & Recovery' guide. It works on the largest civil fraud and asset recovery cases globally, and is currently handling a number of $1 billion+ cases. The team is ambitious and growing. Having been exceedingly busy over the last years, it is now looking to add another associate to the team.

The team acts for claimants and defendants, and has a diverse client base, including companies (from the UK and abroad), insolvency practitioners, and ultra-high net worth individuals. A significant part of the team's case load involves freezing orders and other interim injunctions, and almost all the work is cross border. All the associates in the team gain significant court experience, usually attending multiple hearings every year. The team's work is focussed exclusively on civil litigation; it does not work on regulatory or criminal investigations.

Associates are encouraged to take responsibility early, with plenty of direct contact with clients, experts and counsel. Associates work for the two core partners within the team, and efforts are made to ensure all associates have a mixed case load. The partners are committed to the professional development of the team, and actively invest time in mentoring and training. Associates get involved in marketing from the time they qualify, with the support of the partners and more experienced associates, and there are lots of opportunities to attend team marketing events.
This is a specialist role within the fraud and asset recovery team, so we are seeking a candidate who wishes to specialise in this area rather than maintaining a broad litigation practice. We are seeking a motivated candidate with experience in civil litigation, and with experience of fraud and/or freezing orders. Regulatory and criminal experience is not relevant to this role.
Main Responsibilities:
Day to day case management, including:
  • Actively managing case progress and implementing decisions
  • Acting as the key contact point on smaller matters for clients, experts, and on all matters for junior barristers
  • Drafting witness statements, and other court documents
  • Drafting inter parties correspondence
  • Legal and procedural research and drafting advice
  • Attending meetings and hearings
Marketing, including:
  • Preparing legal articles and updates
  • Developing own informal internal and external network of contacts
  • Attending business development and profile-raising events (client networking events, attending seminars, giving talks, etc.)

Most of our roles are hybrid, meaning that colleagues benefit from working in our office and remotely. We are happy to discuss this and other flexible working arrangements with you as part of the application and interview process
Attributes/Skills Required:
  • Qualified lawyer with civil litigation experience from a large firm in a highly regarded civil litigation department
  • Ambitious self-starter
  • Willingness to take responsibility early on
  • Resilient and motivated with the ability to handle setbacks and pressure, and to manage a number of cases concurrently
  • Team player, willing to work collegiately within a close-knit team
  • Excellent academic and professional qualifications

This job description is indicative only and does not represent an exhaustive list of responsibilities. The firm reserves the right to alter or change the responsibilities at any time, in line with the firm's strategy and business need.

We are an equal opportunity organisation, committed to having a diverse workforce.
