Job description
Role Overview
Oxford Quantum Circuits, as a full-stack hardware provider, designs, builds and operates quantum computers. A critical component of the computer is the control system which is responsible for generating and analysing the microwave pulses necessary for controlling the qubits. The FPGA is very much at the heart of this system as it translates a quantum circuit's intent (as defined by software) into the electrical signals necessary to realise it.
As an FPGA Engineer, you will draw upon your previous experience in RTL design, verification and testing to develop and deploy novel quantum computing control solutions. You will take full ownership of your projects, and be responsible for managing your day to day activities. No prior experience in quantum computing is necessary although it would be advantageous.
PREVIOUS QUANTUM TECHNOLOGY EXPERIENCE IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THIS ROLE!
Responsibilities
- Design, verify, and test robust and scalable control solutions using RTL and targeting FPGA
- Identify, prioritise and execute tasks in the RTL development life cycle
- Develop and deliver projects to timescales defined by internal roadmaps
- Work within an agile team environment, ensuring exceptionally good interactions with stakeholders and the wider business
- Collaborate with internal teams to create and improve FPGA based solutions for controlling quantum computers
- Maintain and incrementally improve existing services based on technical and business led requirements.
- Contribute towards other projects with critical timescales as needed by the business
Requirements
- Commercial FPGA design and verification experience (we require both junior and experienced engineers)
- Experience defining physical/timing constraints and performing timing closure
- Ability to write software for tool automation and low level testing ideally in python
- Familiarity with laboratory tools and hands-on experience testing solutions on hardware
- Strong problem solving, troubleshooting and analysis skills
- Creative mindset for developing solutions to unique and challenging problems
- Technically versatile and able to learn new skills that you can apply across multiple types of work
- Degree in electronics or similar, 2:1 or above or equivalent
Desirable Qualifications And Skills
- Experience designing applications for RF / SDR or similar
- Experience developing low latency solutions for fintech or similar
- Experience designing for Xilinx FPGAs
- PCB design and layout
