Wyman-Gordon is a world leading manufacturer of Nickel, Titanium and Steel alloy forgings for the aerospace and energy sectors. Part of the major American corporation, PCC, we are a global manufacturer of complex metal components and products. Our plant in Livingston is a self-contained design and manufacturing operation.
We currently have a vacancy for forge process operator who will support the forge team in achieving our overall business objectives.
Main duties and responsibilities of the position are:
- Carry out role of Billet Spotter within forge team ensuring lubrication is mixed as per manufacturing instructions, assist manipulator drivers with part location and ensuring lubrication guns are working, lubrication is applied to die setup correctly to prevent any non-conforming product.
- Assisting with all setup operations and forklift tasks within forge complex.
- Operate three cranes within Forge area ensuring safety checks are carried out prior to use: Die Assembly Crane (50 ton); Forge Crane (125 ton); High Crane (25 ton).
- Assist when required in Forge and Die Assembly, i.e. building and stripping dies; assisting with forging at either the 9000 or 30000 ton press and any other job as directed by the Lead hand or Supervisor.
- Carrying out these duties with the use of the appropriate tool, i.e. impact gun, torque gun, stamping gun or any other tool required to do the job.
- Prevent any non-conforming product passing to next production department.
- To assist with the identification, development and implementation of operational improvements.
- Be trained to and carry out role of pyrometer operator ensuring all job temperature and timing records are correct and measured as per manufacturing instructions.
- To ensure continuity of production of quality parts ensuring customer satisfaction is achieved.
- To ensure that quality, cost and delivery are continually improved.
- To ensure that all work meets customer (internal and external) expectations on delivery and quality.
- To be flexible and adaptable and move between work areas if required.
- To stamp and record heat code, serial numbers or other required numbers.
- To ensure that high standards of health, safety and housekeeping are met.
- To undertake additional training within work area in line with the company needs.
- To undertake any other role within skill capability as specified by the Team Leader to comply with legislative requirements.
- To undertake daily forklift truck and crane checks.
Candidates should ideally have the following skills:
- Current forklift licence.
- Previous experience/current licence in crane operation.
- Initiative and flexibility.
- Knowledge and application of safe working practices.
- Knowledge and experience in quality systems and procedures.
- Experience of working in an engineering environment.
- Previous experience working within a Team.
- Knowledge and experience of reading engineering drawings.
Appropriate training will be given if required.
HOURS OF WORK are 37 hours per week. Hours of work on a two-shift rotation
Week1: Tuesday to Thursday 6am – 6pm & Friday 6am – 12 noon
Week 2: Tuesday to Thursday 6pm – 6am nightshift
20 minutes unpaid meal break (to be taken at a time to suit the Company)

Salary: £30,923.75-£31,508.36 per year
