We are looking for a Football Trends Writer to join the team at football.london with excellent knowledge of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham, as well as West Ham, Crystal Palace and other London football clubs, and a proven ability to write interesting and accurate copy at speed.
Day to day, the role of the football trends writer will be to spot opportunities in the topics that fans are discussing on social media, online communities and search engine trends and coming up with the best idea to excite that interest.
We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.

This role is home based and we are therefore open to candidates based across the UK.
What will the role involve?
- Maximising traffic opportunities by responding to breaking news and trending topics with quick, accurate and well-written copy
- Coming up with original ideas every day on how to add value to the ongoing coverage of stories fans care about
- Writing about multiple topics and stories across the day, determined by where the audience opportunities lie
- Using audience tools to find content opportunities around trending topics and come up with the best angle
- Maintain and promote our content by assisting with live blogging, podcasting, video and other formats
- This position will include weekend working so a flexible approach is required
Who are we looking for?
- NCTJ or equivalent journalism degree and knowledge of media law
- You will demonstrate an excellent understanding of how to find and write for a passionate and knowledgeable football audience to drive traffic with creative ideas on how to respond to trending topics and an ability to write fast, accurate and engaging copy to tight deadlines
- Experience writing for a digital audience would be preferable, along with an up-to-date knowledge of media law, search engine optimisation and tools such as Chartbeat and Google Trends
- Full clean driving licence preferable
