Our Organisation

The Football Association [The FA] is the not-for-profit governing body of football in England. It is responsible for promoting and developing every level of the game, from grassroots through to the professional game, and generates significant revenue to support investment into English football each year.
The FA oversees England international teams across men's, women's, youth and disability football, as well as running the National League System and FA Competitions including the Emirates FA Cup, Barclays FA Women's Super League, FA Women's Championship, and Vitality Women's FA Cup, and the world-class facilities of Wembley Stadium and St. George's Park, all with a purpose to Unite the Game and Inspire the Nation.


The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Football Operations Manager, who will lead the administration and day-to-day operations associated with running the professional leagues and competitions.


Key Accountabilities

  • Work with the Head of League Operations to develop an annual business plan and budget for league and competition operations, ensuring prioritisation and allocation of major tasks and that all risks are identified, and any mitigating actions put in place. Produce monthly updates on progress against the strategy and key performance indicators.
  • Lead on the development and delivery of the Women's Professional Game domestic calendar and fixture programme, and manage the broadcast fixture selection process working with domestic broadcasters and member clubs to ensure the league delivers against the commercial broadcast contracts and maximises the visibility of the women's professional game.
  • Manage business critical league administration functions including match kit selections, team sheet approvals and support the player registration processes.
  • Contribute to the annual review of competition rules and any supporting regulations, to ensure appropriate changes and updates are made.
  • Work with the wider League Operations team to deliver a high quality match day support service for Clubs and other stakeholders.
  • Engage the Women's Professional Game in key EDI campaigns, and work with internal and external stakeholders to develop an EDI plan for the women's professional game.
  • Project manage the planning and implementation of the technology road map working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including the ongoing development of the league administration system: FAS and the transition onto Fresh Desk for improved customer service
  • Effectively manage internal and external stakeholder relations including member clubs, FIFA, UEFA, European Club Association (ECA), Kick It Out, PFA, Football Supporters Association (FSA), Premier League and EFL, and provide outstanding customer service to members and key stakeholders
  • Participate as an active member of the Executive Operations Committee (EOC), making key decisions on women's professional game business
  • Work closely with the Women's Leagues Manager to assist with the delivering of women's professional game leagues and competitions, and provide cover for the Women's Leagues Manager as and when required
  • Contribute to creating a high performing team and positive culture within the League Operations Team and wider Women's Professional Game division and organisation
  • Support the delivery of women's professional game competition finals within the division
  • Use data and insight to help inform decision making across the business.
  • Execute additional tasks as required in order to meet FA Group changing priorities.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing can be maintained.

Essential:
  • Knowledge of sport competition management and development.
  • Knowledge of the Women's Professional Game.
  • Passion for Women's Football.
  • Experience of league / competition management.
  • Experience of managing operations effectively and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and understanding equality issues within the game.
  • Track record in creating and executing successful projects, business plans and demonstrating impact/results.
  • Build relationships and effectively manage a complex network of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise tasks.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines and maintain quality of work.
  • Ability to manage conflict effectively.
  • Excellent report writing skills. Conveys written information clearly and accurately to a wide range of recipients.
  • Excellent presentations skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate with impact to a range of audiences.
  • Ability to manage budgets.
  • Highly proficient skills in Microsoft Office.

Desirable:
  • Experience of competition management within professional sport / football.
  • Experience of working with broadcasters.
  • Experience in developing EDI plans.
  • Experience of working with and building relationships with major football stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the football industry.
  • Knowledge of league administration IT programmes including IFAS/FAS.
  • Knowledge and understanding of The Football Association.
  • Knowledge of the Men's Professional Game and National League System structure.

Please be aware that unless you are on a homebased contract, your contract with The FA will specify a fixed location of either Wembley Stadium, St. George's Park or our Processing Centre.

We currently work within a hybrid working model whereby the expectation is to work from your contractual location for part of the week, and as and when required by the team. The remaining days can be worked remotely. We will continue to monitor this model and it may be adjusted in future if deemed necessary.
