A small independent specialist school in the Loughborough area for learners with high functioning
Autistic Spectrum Disorder - Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4, are looking for a full time Qualified (will take on ECTS) Food Technology Teacher (willing to also teach Childhood Development) who can start as soon as possible. The school are willing to train and support the successful educator with the childhood development lessons.

The learners have mostly come from mainstream settings, but their ASC has been a
significant barrier and has often led to an uneven academic and social profile. The average group size is 5
(maximum of 6) and we have 8 groups across the school.


THE ROLE

Looking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Teacher of Food to teach across the
school from KS2 and KS3 to GCSE level. The role also includes the teaching of a small cohort studying
their first year of the Cambridge National in Child Development (training and support provided to teach this).

This is an exciting opportunity for a Teacher with a passion for Food and Child Development to take over our school kitchen, supported
by a friendly team of colleagues. All of our learners have Cooking lessons in KS2 and KS3, with the option to study for a GCSE in Food Preparation and Nutrition at KS4.
The successful candidate will be supported by a friendly team of colleagues and would be suitable for
either an experienced Teacher or a practising Teacher looking for their next challenge. Alongside the teaching of Food and Child Development, you must be willing to expand your teaching and deliver
part of our wider curriculum, which includes some PSHCEE lessons.


Key aspects of the role include:
  • Delivering the curriculum in a creative way, differentiating for the individual student.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues including the leadership team, other classroom
teachers, an outdoor learning teacher, a number of learning support assistants, a Speech and
Language Therapist, Counsellor, Occupational Therapist and both Educational and Clinical
Psychologists.
  • Promoting confidence in learners through discovery and exploration in the Humanities area.
  • Supervising and supporting learners, ensuring their safety and access to learning.
  • Establishing good relationships with learners, acting as a role model and being aware of and
responding appropriately to their individual needs.
  • Encouraging learners to interact with others and engage in activities.
  • Encouraging learners to act independently as appropriate.
  • Keeping and updating records, the marking of learners’ work and recording achievement and
progress data.
  • Management of the school kitchen which doubles as both a teaching space and staff kitchen
at break times.
  • Adhering to and contributing to health and safety policy and procedure.
Experience of working with learners with autism would be an advantage, although not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
