About the Team & Role
Following a major refurbishment of the kitchen and bar at Gloucester Guildhall, the team are looking to grow the number of permanent staff to deliver the food and drink aspect of the Guildhall programme of events.
Right in the heart of the city, Gloucester Guildhall is a vibrant venue, home to an impressive programme of music, comedy, film, and theatre. As well as our 400-capacity main hall, we have a beautiful recently refurbished cinema, multiple meeting and conference spaces and a Bar and Kitchen – all housed in a beautiful Grade II listed building.
As well as Gloucester Guildhall, the service supports delivery at Blackfriars Priory, a stunning 13th century medieval Priory – another venue for live events and corporate hires but also weddings that can often fill the summer season. Here we run indoor and outdoor events in such a spectacular setting. As part of the venues team, you will serve food and drink (including alcohol) to customers visiting our live events, cinema and weddings and provide refreshments for our corporate hires. With sell out events, the bar can be a hive of activity.
About You
You will ideally have experience of working in a bar which includes the safe sale of alcohol. With a small window of opportunity to generate income during events, you need to be confident to speak to our customers, process orders quickly and have great attention to detail when it comes to cash-handling.
Working across both venues means that you need to adapt your presentation style from working a loud sell out gig at the Guildhall compared to a wedding where you will play a key role in ensuring that weddings are memorable.
About Us
This is an annualised hours role as the events industry is demand led – this means we may ask you to do more hours one week and less the following week to meet the needs of the events taking place. We have a busy year ahead so it is likely there will be overtime available. There will be a mixture of day and evening shifts including weekend working. We ask for flexibility from the role, but we can also be flexible should you have any other commitments.
We are also looking to build up our pool of casual staff so if the above is of interest, but you prefer an even more flexible role, then you may wish to consider applying for a zero hours position which can be found on the City Council job pages.
