Job Description

The role of Finishing Operator is to independently run and maintain Gluing machines, or set of machines, whilst ensuring maximum output in line with strict quality guidelines. The Finishing Operator will be supported by an Assistant/Minder on the machine.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Run a Gluing machine or set of machines, following a PECAS plan of work, as set by the Production Planner
  • Maintain a Gluing machine or set of machines; including carrying out minor repairs and understanding the make-up of a Gluing machine and the solutions to problems encountered
  • To make-ready jobs on the Gluing machine in line with the Plan, and to adhere to make-ready target times
  • To ensure all paperwork is completed whilst running the work through the machines, i.e., Check Charts, Quality Checks etc
  • Be vigilant with the work that is being produced and raise any issues that may cause the Company a customer complaint
  • To ensure run speeds are at a maximum, without compromising quality
  • To carry out an effective hand over with the in-coming Operator to include a rundown of any issues faced during the shift or any likely issues which may be faced
  • Ensure the area around the Gluing machine is a safe place to work, including the area being always clear of debris
  • Provide occasional relief for other Operator’s meal breaks or absence when required
  • Work with the Gluing Assistant/ minder to ensure optimum running of the machine at all times
  • To communicate with other departments which may be affecting the performance of the machine, i.e., planning, maintenance
  • To work closely with other members of the gluing department and provide support where needed, i.e., in collecting loads, feeding machines, support with operating, training etc
  • To ensure order quantities are correct at the end of the shift.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience of working in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in a similar role, or an understanding of what is involved
  • Good standard of education required

Interpersonal Skills

  • Previous experience of working as a Gluing Operator
  • Knowledge of key terms used in a Finishing environment
  • Working examples of guiding and developing assistants
  • A good level of numeracy, literacy, and IT competency, or willing to learn, required.
