Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to study right in the heart of the city and we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Assistant to join our dynamic Finance team. The role will suit a newly or part qualified Accountant looking to advance their career in Financial Reporting.
Joining an ambitiously dynamic team of five, you will be working closely with the Senior Finance officer. Together you will support the reporting processes that includes providing the Head of Financial Reporting and Financial Accountant with timely and accurate reports to support the preparation of key Financial Statements and quarterly VAT returns. You will also support the Capital Accountant with a variety of Month End processes and reports, owning a number of recurring tasks and reconciliations.
Working within the Financial Reporting Team, your key responsibilities will include:
- ownership of recurring month end duties including preparation of a number of key balance sheet reconciliations
- assist with the preparation of income and expenditure reports
- produce accurate reports to support the timely completion of high quality financial reports for internal and external requirements
- monitor and control finances within portfolio anticipating future commitments and planning for these commitments with budget holders
- prepare accurate month end journals and assist with the preparation of year end accruals and prepayments
- ensure electronic and manual files for financial documentation are well organised, up to date and audit ready
- support the team to achieve their objectives of continuous improvement in their strive for excellence
Criteria / Skills:
- Qualified to AAT level or able to demonstrate a combination of qualifications, skills and relevant experience at an equivalent level
- High level of numerical skill
- Sound knowledge of financial systems and procedures
- Experience of finance work
- Experience of maintaining accurate finance records
- Experience of working successfully as part of a team
- Excellent IT skills including advanced knowledge of spreadsheets and finance systems
