About the role

This Functional Controller role partners our Product, Customer and Channels (Shrink) FD's in providing financial control assurance to them and their teams, independently applying judgment to ensure the accuracy of our financial records across these three significant areas. You will drive global alignment, supporting financial control across all business units in the Group, setting control policy, and providing assurance over our financial results.

You will manage a team of 5 as well as work closely with teams in India focusing on their development to ensure joint delivery of compliance and continuous improvement to our financial control framework.

You will be responsible for

• Delivering accurate and timely financial results for Product, Customer & Shrink, in the UK business.
• Supporting global alignment for Product, Customer & Shrink Control across the Group.
• Analysing new and existing business initiatives, challenging assumptions and highlighting risks and opportunities.
• Ensuring period end close activities are planned and carried out according to agreed close schedules, and that accounting policies are in compliance with local accounting Standards and stated company norms (TGAP).
• Ensuring control frameworks are in line with relevant Tesco Group Policies and refreshed at regular intervals.
• Designing remediation processes for Key Financial Control lapses, as well as Internal and External Audit observations and review and approve process improvements to period close.
• Providing financial control assurance to senior colleagues in Business Partnering, Financial Planning & Analysis and other financial control teams, eg Regional Controllers as well as operational teams.
• Working closely with and provide guidance to Tesco Business Services Team, and as owner and customer of the process ensuring their accountability for delivery to agreed service levels and key performance indicators through the Service Delivery Model.
• Working with Global Process Owner team to identify and deliver continuous improvement opportunities in accounting processes owned by this role.

You will need

• Previous experience of working in a control, audit or technical environment.
• Professional accounting qualification (or material relevant experience)
• Working knowledge of process improvement methodologies alongside demonstrable commercial experience
• Working experience of risk based management
• Delivery through material use of shared services
