The Finance Division reports to the Chief Financial Officer and consists of some 3,000 employees worldwide. Finance protects the Morgan Stanley franchise by serving as guardian of the Firm's books and records and by contributing to Firm wide risk management and risk reduction. This division maintains relationships with Morgan Stanley's various industry and government regulators and also serves as the conduit of financial information to the outside investment community. Finance plays a critical role as advisor to Morgan Stanley's various businesses and its senior management team.

Team Profile

The specific role is in the Global Corporate Controllers (GCC) group. Within the Global function, this role will be in the London Office of Morgan Stanley, specifically in the Legal Entity Control (LEC) area. The London LEC team consists of 15 staff, working on a range of projects, regulatory and statutory reporting and control functions, specific to the main PRA regulated entities in the Morgan Stanley group

We are hiring an associate to work in the team responsible for the statutory external reporting of Morgan Stanley's London LEC team. The direct team consists of 2 people based in London with support from 1 FTE based in Mumbai.

Primary Responsibilities

A legal entity associate level role exists for an individual with good financial accounting skills and a strong sense of guardianship. The candidate must have well-developed communication skills (both written and verbal) and be able to build a high level of credibility with management. This role will be primarily responsible for supporting the London External reporting LEC team with planning for, and preparation of, the IFRS annual and semi-annual consolidated financial statements for the largest UK regulated entity, the UK Group Country-by-Country Reporting and profit verifications.

The key responsibilities of the role are:

Interim/Annual responsibilities: the planning and completion of the MSIP Group interim and annual financial statements. The financial statements are prepared in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Key responsibilities are:

  • Assisting with the planning and roll forward of the financial statements.
  • Co-ordination and communication with key stakeholders involved in the financial statements process including Tax, Legal, Disclosures, Accounting Policy, Risk, and Finance Senior Management;
  • Co-ordination and review of key disclosures and analysis of key balances to be included in the financial statements.
  • Liaising with the external auditors in the delivery of support for the disclosures.

The role provides an excellent exposure to a broad range of financial issues, corporate governance and product accounting and involves regular interaction with a varied range of groups. #LI-RG1 #LI-Hybrid

Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Knowledge of IFRS accounting standards and disclosure requirements
  • Working towards qualification as ACA or equivalent with experience in preparation of consolidated financial statements would be preferred.
  • Knowledge of financial products which are used in the financial services industry, such as securities lending and repos, and an awareness of the issues would be preferred
- Candidates should possess excellent Microsoft Excel and Word skills and be proficient in data mining and summarising and presenting themes and results in a meaningful format. - Familiarity with Workiva/WDesk would be beneficial
