JUNIOR FINANCIAL ANALYSTS - INTERN *Student/New Grad Opportunity*

The Upper Grand District School Board is seeking a mature student or new graduate of a Finance program for the position of Intern- Finance. Reporting directly to the Finance Managers, this role will be responsible for assisting the Finance department with a variety of duties that support the critical functions of Finance. During your time at the UGDSB you will gain exposure to a wide range of Finance projects in a supportive and collaborative environment.
This is a temporary position (35 hours per week)
LOCATION: Guelph Board Office - 500 Victoria Road N, Guelph, ON
RATE OF PAY: $18.50/hour
TERM: June – August 31, 2023 (with the possibility of extension)
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Prepares customized financial reports of the Board’s financial activities for various internal and external users including Schools, Management, Senior Administration, Ministry of Education, etc.
- Performs regular review and analysis of financial data, identifying trends and explaining variances
- Supports School Generated Funds accounting and reporting, and provides leadership in any software or procedural changes for school generated funds accounting
- Delivers presentations to communicate finance concepts and finance department policies and procedures
- Provides guidance and training to non-finance system leaders and admin staff related to financial issues and questions
- Manages assigned balance sheet accounts by investigating any discrepancies, preparing necessary adjusting journal entries and maintaining monthly reconciliations
- Reviews financial transactions to ensure compliance with Board policies, plans and procedures, laws and regulations
- Provides support to the Finance Department by being versatile and adaptable to multiple tasks, deadlines and competing priorities
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Eligible to work for the Summer Term (June to August 2023)
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Business Administration or Finance related program
- Approximately 1 year of work experience in similar role, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Thorough understanding and skills in the use of financial information systems, report writing and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to provide presentations to larger groups
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet timelines
- Excellent attention to detail and excellent analytical, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills
