The role...

As a Financial Accountant at Synthesia, you will have the opportunity to be an integral part of the finance team, playing a crucial role in facilitating and supporting the continued growth of the company. You'll work alongside our Financial Controller to ensure the function remains strong and efficient as we scale even further. With your strong motivation, attention to detail, and passion for finance, you will help us achieve our goal of delivering a best-in-class finance function. This is a challenging and rewarding role that offers the potential for personal and professional growth as the business continues to expand rapidly.

The role initially involves overseeing and leading the accounts payable function, however the role will be dynamic, so the ideal candidate will be willing to get stuck into any task that comes their way. Initially responsibilities include:

  • Correctly record invoices received from suppliers, and ensure they are accurately entered into the books.
  • Process payments, ensuring all invoices and expenses are paid according to agreed terms.
  • Maintain the expense management and travel system and ensure employees are correctly reimbursed in line with company policy.
  • Reconcile accounts payable and bank records to maintain accuracy and completeness.
  • Suggest ways to improve the invoicing and payment approval flows within the company.
  • Provide analysis on why expenditure has increased or decreased month-on-month.

As you develop into the role, we expect that you will grow into other aspects of the company and assist the wider finance team with a broad range of responsibilities. These will include:

  • Assist with month-end close processes and financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly consolidated management accounts and commentary for senior management.
  • Assist with the statutory audit.
  • Perform day-to-day bookkeeping to ensure accurate accounts.
  • File quarterly VAT returns and Corporation Tax returns for the Synthesia Group.
  • Assist with ad hoc finance and accounting projects, which could include implementation of new systems or procedures.

About you...

  • Fully qualified accountant, either ACA, ACCA or CIMA (or equivalent)
  • You will be relatively early on in your career, with a maximum of 5 years of work experience in a practice or industry environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for finance and eager to join a dynamic and innovative tech company, where you will play a vital role in developing a best-in-class finance function.
  • Commercially minded, with a can-do "roll your sleeves up" attitude.
  • Top performer which is visible in both you academic and professional achievements.
